Question about size of baby in womb..
I went for a 3-D sono yesterday and was told that my baby is measuring 5 pounds already at 30 1/2 weeks. Do you think that means that I am going to have a 9 or 10 pound baby??

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
Not necessarily. They are often wrong in the weight assessments with sonos. But, big= healthy so that's a good thing!!!

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
I don't know if that means you're going to have a big baby... but honestly, take what the Dr. says about the size of the baby with a grain of salt... Their size predictions aren't always all that accurate.

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
While it could be accurate, more often than not I've found that the growth sonos are not accurate at all -
At 36 weeks, I had a growth sono and my DS was measuring 7 pounds, 7 oz.
I delivered only 3 days before my due date (close to 40 wks) and my DS was born 7 pounds, 4 oz..
I too was expecting he'd be close to 9 pounds based on my sono - but it was definitely 'off'!

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
My baby measured large at all of his growth sonos. In fact, the day before I was induced he measured 8lbs9oz. He was born 7lbs11oz. The sono told me that they're just educated guesstimates and lots of things can throw it off. In fact she said my baby was probably smaller than the computer said because he had/has long limbs. Every little thing can scew it one way or another.

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
Like most people said, the estimation can be off. However, keep in mind that they can be off either way. The day before I went into labor, was estimated at 8lbs 9ozs and he was born at 9lbs 10ozs. So, they were off by a pound and he was bigger not smaller.

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
Thanks for your responses ladies. I was nervous that I would have a giant baby and that giving birth would be harder, but now I know that it's not definite...and I won't worry as much. And I know that big = healthy, so I am going to try to be positive about it either way.

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
According to the sono weight my doc said I would have a 9+lb baby if I went full term. I delivered the day before my due date and DD weighed 6lb 10oz. Totally off!

Re: Question about size of baby in womb..
They told me they could be off one pound either way - higher or lower. I think mine measure a pound or so more than what they actually were.
