question about stuttering
My dd speaks very well for a 2 year old. The only thing she stutters on is this one sentence. She says" do you want to come in, in , in in , in , in my room?
I have heard it plenty of times my dh heard it for the first time tonight and is flipping out. I said if theee was real problem wouldnt she do it on other senetences. Also she then said it fne when he first came home but then later on she said it with the stutter.

Re: question about stuttering
I'm a speech pathologist...word repetitions like that are totally normal at this age. I wouldn't even be concerned.

Re: question about stuttering
another speech therapist here... i totally wouldn't be concerned at this point. right now, your daughter is still learning how to use language and how to talk. shes still learning to get her mind and her mouth to work together correctly usually we don't get concerned about stuttering until the kids are 6 or 7. the best thing to do if you're concerned is to just always try to talk to her in a nice, slow rate, and never bring attention to it- if shes stuttering, just give her the time to say what she wants/needs to say.

Re: question about stuttering
Thanks girls. Its just SOO WEIRD this is the ONLY and i mean only things she stutters on. She speaks REALLY well for her age and i just dont get it why its one sentence she struggles with. I know this sounds silly but do you think she is doing it on purpose? The first time she did it i thought she was playing aorujnd so i was kind of laughing ( not at her so please no flames) just being slilly and saying what are you doing talking like that? or something like that. My dh made her say it like 5 times and the only time she did it was when i was in the room do you think she thinks its a game with me?

Re: question about stuttering
I definitely would just not draw any attention to it. Keep your sentences nice and slow with her, (DH too!) and just let her finish what she is saying without interrupting.
Repetitions are totally normal as kids are developing language... we just don't want to make an issue out of it or let the child know they are doing something incorrect.

Re: question about stuttering
I stuttered a little when I was younger. My sister used to tease me, and my parents thought that that was the reason I stopped. But it was probably a developmental thing really.

Re: question about stuttering
My nephew had the same problem this summer, I actually posted on here about it. He is fine now. Just make sure you don't correct her or pay attention to it(or pretend not to) She'll be fine.
