Question about subbing and maternity
If I am a substitute teacher am I entitled to any sort of disability when I have a baby in September?
I assumed no but figured it was worth asking. I have no idea who to ask either!

Re: Question about subbing and maternity
I don't think so, especially if you are per diem. You get paid for what you work.

Re: Question about subbing and maternity
I was a full-time teacher and even I didn't get any disability at all. I'm in NJ so it may be different, but in NJ school district employees are not eligible to receive state disability. The only way you would get disability as a teacher is if you had taken out a private disability insurance policy. Unfortunately, I only found this out after I got pregnant.

Re: Question about subbing and maternity
No.
And like the PP mentioned, no disability in my district as well.
As a FT employee you can take your banked sick days concurrent with your FMLA. For example, if you have X number of banked sick days, you can go out on FMLA and the first X number of days will be paid up to 60 days (the limit for FMLA)

Re: Question about subbing and maternity
subbing, probably not... if you're per diem, you get paid for what you work that's it.
My district you get 12 weeks FMLA and then disability... if you have the disability insurance from the district. i was wisely advised to get it.... i will get 2/3 of my salary while out for a baby on disability (for a certain amount of time, i forget the exact number of weeks)
