Question about taxes and exemptions
Last year DH claimed Single 0 but we want to change it to Married 1. He brought home the W-4 form from work but I am not sure how to complete it. In box 3 it asks if your single or married. I checked off married. Than on line 5 it asks for total number of allowances you are claiming. Now being I already checked married, do I just put 1 or should I put 3 being he is claiming Married 1 which is 3 people????

Re: Question about taxes and exemptions
The higher the exemptions the less $$ they take out per paycheck
so..it doesnt have to correlate with the # of people
put 1 if you want more taken out of his check- you could put 3 if you want less taken out...etc.

Re: Question about taxes and exemptions
So that means they are only going to look at the # I put on that line...3....not add the 3 plus the 2 from the box where I checked off married, right?
Sorry I have preggo brain and am not thinking clearly.

yes - the number that you write ther - is the number they use - they don't add anything to it.
