I have an 06 looking for a newer car,going for the same make.
Do I have to have money to put down?

It will depend on how much you owe on your current vehicle and how much you get for the trade in.

You will probably make more selling the car privately, instead of a trade in, if you want to look into that route.

If you owe money on the car, you have to pay off the loan before you give the person that wants your car, the car.
Easiest way to go is to trade in your car, and then you can subtract the new cars worth from your cars worth and then you only pay tax on that amount.
If you owe money on your car and yyou trade it in then you will have to put down money
