Question about travelling and wheelchairs
My parents are going to Germany at the end of the month. They have a stopover in Washington DC and my mom wants to get my dad a wheelchair for the walk from one terminal to the next. Does anyone know what the procedure is? Do you contact the airline or just let them know at the airport when you check in ?? and does it cost anything?
TIA

Re: Question about travelling and wheelchairs
i believe they would arrange this with the airline. i would call in advance and find out the specific procedure from whatever carrier they are flying. it should be no problem and it is my impression that you would not be charged anything for this.

Re: Question about travelling and wheelchairs
You need to contact the airline and they will set it up. BUT, they should double check before boarding their original flight. Sometimes it's overlooked and not noted. So if they tell the ticket agent when they check in, they will make sure it's noted. If not, they will make arrangements so a chair is waiting for them once they get off the plane.
ETS: There is no charge for this. I've only tipped the person who helped us. Usually I have carry on bags that I'm pulling so the airlines will offer to have someone assist you.
