Question about wood floors...

Do u think you will see more scratches on a wood floor that is lighter in color or darker? I have heard conflicting stories, and I am having mine redone on Monday. I can leave it the natural color or stain it darker. Just wondering b/c I have a dog and she gets excited alot when people come over and i'm afraid her nails will do some scratching. Any thoughts??? Re: Question about wood floors...

My cousin had to have her floors done very dark but what I think made the difference was the polyurethane. They came out super shiny. It looks like a bowling ally and it shows all the scratches, each hair from the dog & every grain of sand!

Mine were just sanded and poly'ed no stain and I don’t see anything as far as scratches. But ohh the Dust!!Chat Icon

Re: Question about wood floors...

I would think light would be better because
1. scratches would show as much
2. dust doesn't show as much

You really don't see any scratches. I think lighter would be better!

Re: Question about wood floors...

Lighter is definitely better and go with a satin finish vs the super shiny. You can touch the scratches up with the natural stain and a Qtip weekly. It works great. And get lots of felt sliders for movable things and rubber feet to keep the other things in place.

I think that the darker they are, they more scratches will show up on them.

Totally agree. A super shiny finish will show the scratches more than a satin...and those felt sliders are a must!

Re: Question about wood floors...

My husband installs hardwood floors in the summer - and if I remember correctly he told me that the more poly they put down - the more you will see scratches.

I don't think it has to do with the color you stain the wood.

ETA: We put alot of poly down because we like the shiny look - and yes I see scratches but not enough to really stand out or bother me.
