Question about your obgyn
If you go to a practice with more than one dr. are you required to see any dr. for your appointments? Also, when you deliver... will your dr. be whoever is "on call" or do you know it will your YOUR dr. Im having a really hard time with my practice. just wanted to see what policys of other practices are... thanks!

The office I see I have my Dr, but I also met with the other doctors just in case my Dr is not available the day I deliver. Since we are having a planned c-section this should not be the case, but you never know.
I know a lot of practices are not run this way though & you get who is available.

Re: Question about your obgyn
I think pretty much any practice that has more than one doctor the general rule is you rotate during your pregnancy to see them all b.c you will get whoever is on call to deliver you. Now if you are scheduled for an induction or c-section they try to do that with your regular doctor so you shouldn't have to rotate since you know the day you will deliver.
Honestly it is a good idea - what if your regular dr is not on call or better on vacation, or has a death in the family out of state - if you don't see the other doctors then they aren't familar with your medical history and you will have a stranger deliver you.
Etd to add most I don't think you are absolutely required to see them all - but it is strongly encouraged since you don't know which one will deliver you.

Re: Question about your obgyn
In general , I see only my Dr. and she will be the one to deliver my baby. Although she just had a baby herself last week, I will be seeing her on my next visit in 2 weeks.

Re: Question about your obgyn
I go to a practice with 6 doctors - one doctor is my "contact" doctor.
I alternate visits. Every other appointment is with my contact doc and the alternating one is with a different doctor in the practice each time.
They do that because whomever is on call when I go into labor is who is delivering my baby and this way I'm familiar with all of them.
At first, I didn't like the idea, but I've liked every single doctor, so I'm okay.

Re: Question about your obgyn
There are 6 docs in my practice, only 4 take call including my own.
With DD i rotated through the docs so i could get to know them and me.
When labor comes around, it would be doc on call who delivers.

Re: Question about your obgyn
I generally try to see the doctors that I like in my practice ( I have a choice when I make my appointments) but I have been trying to make sure that I see each doctor at least once because whoever is on call when I am in labor will deliver and I want to at least know each doctor's face...since I am now going each week, I generally have to see whoever is available since my schedule isn't very flexible with work

Re: Question about your obgyn
For most of my pregnancy I would see one of the NP's since the wait tends to be shorter for them. Since I got GD and started having other issues I see my OB. There are 2 docs and I know both just in case but I am having a scheduled c-section so I 98% know who will deliver me.

Re: Question about your obgyn
Throughout my pregnancy, I saw only my regular dr, when I went in for the induction, it was done by the other dr who was scheduled to be at the hospital that day and then the following day, I saw my regular dr for the delivery. Let me add also, on the day of the induction, the other dr was in surgery so they had another dr come in until he was done. I think during my stay at the hospital for the c-section, I saw 4 different dr's, all of whom were wonderful!

Re: Question about your obgyn
The practice I go to has 3 MDs and they have 4 locations. They make my appts with whomever is in the office when I need to come. Sometimes I just see the Nurse Practitioner.
As for delivery, I was told that there is a 25% chance I will NOT get one of the 3 Drs from my practice because they share on-call duties with other MDs, as they cannot be in multiple locations at one time.

Re: Question about your obgyn
My obgyn is part of a larger practice and I have to meet all the doctor's during my pregnancy. I am meeting one tomorrow in fact, this will be the first one. Originally my doc said I wouldn't meet them for awhile, but since she is on vacation now is as good of a time as any.
When it comes time to deliver it can be any of these doctors that are on call.

Re: Question about your obgyn
There are 4 doctors at the practice I go to and they make me see each of them and then after I meet them all I can request one for check ups but any one of them can deliver the baby.

Re: Question about your obgyn
2 dr in the practice but I am not "required" to see the other one. I will meet him once though just in case my dr. is not available for my delivery. At least I would have met him once!

Re: Question about your obgyn
I go to a "group" and I'm in the process of STILL getting to know each one. I think I have 3 more to go But so far, every one of them has been fabulous. I do have my favorite who is my regular gyno. But whoever's at the hospital when I deliver will be it.

Re: Question about your obgyn
For the most part, I see "my" doctor and she will most likely be the one who delivers. I only saw the other dr. this past week b/c she was out of the office last week.
Usually a multi-practice will have you see more than one dr. on purpose in the event the dr. you "mainly" see cannot deliver, you are familiarized with the staff.

Re: Question about your obgyn
theres 5 docs in my practice. I've met with 3, they're pretty much mostly available...i'll be meeting with the 4th in 2 wks...havent met the 5th yet.... but it will be the lucky of the draw delivery time. i'm ok with that cuz so far all the ones i've met i'm fine with i mean yes i have my faves but its ok as long as its not a resident doc at the hosp that i never met or am comfy with

Re: Question about your obgyn
I see a group. I have seen 4 different doctors so far, which is their normal practice. You never know which one is going to be on call, so they want you to be familiar with all of them. I actually like this, because when I get a choice to pick the Dr, I know which ones I like the best. I would much rather see all of them now than have some strange dr walk in when I am about to deliver....
