Question for homeowners
Do you ever regret buying your house? did you see something you liked better but when it was too late?
Do any of you feel like you over extended yourself?

Re: Question for homeowners
I never regretted it.
My house needed to be completely redone but we got it for a price that was low enough that we still paid less than we would have for a house in diamond condition with someone else's taste. Instead, we financed less and got everything redone.
The coordination of the selling of our previous house with the purchase of this house was the most stressful part. We were very lucky that our IL's allowed us to live in their house for four months... and it was big enough for all of us.

Re: Question for homeowners
We looked for a long time...over two years and we saw about 160 houses. I gave up about 3 times during that stretch and it was just before we "found" our house that I gave up again. It was frustrating and maddening and I was waiting for what everyone said would happen: that it would *just* happen.
I love our house - I love the neighborhood, the area and the potential our house has (it is an unfinished/undormered cape) and the property is gorgeous (was a huge selling point).
We actually wound up buying on the low end of our range - we were looking at houses in the $400-520k range - so while our payments are huge in comparison to our rent, no, I don't feel over extended at all. We still want to travel and play and eventually if/when we have a child, I will be a SAHM so we didn't want to over extend ourselves at all.

Re: Question for homeowners
nope! not one regret! Love our house, love our neighborhood, love the community, love my commute to work!
We also ended up buying our house at the top of our price range, but I don't feel that we over extended ourselves.

Re: Question for homeowners
I LOVE my house and have not regretted it yet. We put our offer in in January and closed in April. Nothing has come on the market in our price range that i like better yet....

Re: Question for homeowners
no regrets.
love our house, we enjoy our town. We are on somewhat of a main road, but we knew that when we bought the house, but also knew that our house on another street would have been 200k more.

Re: Question for homeowners
I won't say regret...but when we were having some issues closing on our second house, I started looking again - just in case.
Well I found something cute...in a slightly better location, cheaper but needed tons of work - but had tons of potential!
DH didn't want a fixer upper (as our second house - already went through that with the first) so it was a compromise. Our house is great now...and has a lot of potential, but not sure if its the house I want to be for the rest of my life...but I don't think any house would be!

Re: Question for homeowners
No regrets..we look at it like it's our first house, it suits us for now- We are slowing re-doing certain things.
We bought at the high end of our range. We were terrified but it all worked out. We knew it would be a good purchase.
It was double what our rent was so it was scary to say the least.

Re: Question for homeowners
No regrets at all- in fact, I love our house and the neighborhood its in. When I tell people that I work with where I live(I now live in the school district where I work) they always say, WOW- you are so lucky. I definately feel that way.

Re: Question for homeowners
We just bought our house about 2 months ago, and I will be honest...
I LOVE my house. I think its perfect. The only problem is that it is a little too far east for my liking (Coram). Sometimes I feel as if we should have just waited another year, save up alot more moeny and bought something further west. Especially since we moved in, we have seen some homes further west in our price range.

Re: Question for homeowners
No way! I love my house, the only thing I wish for is a more private yard. Our yard is basically all side yard even though it isnt a corner.

Re: Question for homeowners
whoops wrong board.
hopefully i wont have any regrets...we'll see! I would just make the best decision you can at the time you make it. its easy to look back and say "i should have done this" but you can't do that to yourself!

Re: Question for homeowners
Never regretted buying it. I still get that "ahhhh" feeling when I walk in the door, especially if I've been away for a while, like on vacation. I looked for about a year, so I knew when I saw it. Not to mention I bought a while ago, so now it's worth a lot more than I paid - good investment.
ETA: I bought this on my own, before even meeting DH so yes, I was concerned about being able to afford it (it was at the top of my price range). Somehow, things always worked out.

Re: Question for homeowners
No regrets, it's a great starter home for us. I am just glad we found the perfect house for us. It's amazing how you need to make such a large decision after having seen the house for a half-hour at most, and yet, we still made the perfect decision.
