Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
I know this is a personal question but for those of you who had some type of problem or need to do some type of IVF or other type of method to help you get pregnant. DId you know about this before deciding to ttc? or just after trying for a while? I am asking because we are not planning to ttc for another year or more but I am scared that when we decide to we are going to find out we have some type of problem/difficulty and it take us another 1-2 yrs to actually get pregnant. Can I go to my doctor now and ask to get tested in some way to know if we have some type of problem? if that even possible? I know this is personal and maybe even a dumb question but if you have any advice

Re: Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
When DH and I got married, we ttc right away. Almost a year of unsuccessful TTC, my ob/gyn sent me to an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) because she suspected that I had endometriosis and an endometrioma cyst on my ovary. This doctor was also a specialist in this field. He did some sonos and didn't see anything, so we started a cycle of clomid. During this, I did go and have my tubes tested to see if there were any blockages and all was clear. After 3 unsuccessful tries with Clomid, my doctor notice that my period was very heavy and decided to do surgery to see what was going on. I did have endometriosis, so that was cleaned up and I did have that cyst on my ovary. Unfortunately, during time, the cyst leaked and scarred my left tube and it couldn't be repaired. After my recovery, I did the injectables with IUI and got pregnant with my DD. It took 3 tries all IUI's to finally get pregnant.
The doctor won't do any testing unless you unsuccessfully TTC for a year.

Oh I didnt know that. and I cant imagine how hard was going through all that for both of you.. I give you (and every woman that go through all that) a lot of credit. This may sound silly but I am scared of having to go through all that

We conceived #1 with no problems. We tried for #2 for 14 months and then I saw an RE and got pregnant via IUI.

My cycles were also really crazy (for example, the year before TTC, I only got AF 2x) & I was a little underweight so I always knew in the back of my mind that there may be an issue.

Re: Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
Due to DH and my age when we got married, I thought there could be issues. But never thought we'd have the issues we ended up having. We tried naturally for 3 months, but it was apparent that early on it would be difficult as my normally like clock work cycle disappeared and my periods stopped altogether.
After lots of testing, we also found that we were dealing with Male Factor issues as well.

No, but I only had trouble when ttc #2. With #1 it was first month off bcp and we weren't necessarily trying, but we weren't not trying either.

I started to see my RE October 2007 and got pregnant April 2008. I was fortunate that it didn't take that long. The emotions you go through, it definately takes a toll on you and for me it messed with my mind. I was very open about my situation, DH on the other hand wasn't and it caused some conflict between us. When you are constantly asked by your MIL when she's going to be a grandmother, what are you supposed to say. Its a valid question. I had to get it through DH's head that unfortunately a lot of couples go through this. I had a condition that I had no control over.
Hopefully, you won't have to go through any of this when you're ready to TTC. I was scared, but I found LIF and the infertility board and I didn't feel so scared anymore. I felt that I had more support because I can relate to other women who were going through this and they can understand the ups and downs.

Re: Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
do you have any problems with your cycles that you think you'd have a problem? I always *thought* I'd have a problem because my periods were so irregular and I was right. Unless you are over 35, you need to have been TTC a year before an RE will see you. That being said, there is no reason why you OB cant run cycle day 3 blood testing on you. This would be a simple way to see if your hormone levels are in check.

Re: Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
My cycles started becoming irregular when I was 26 and so I had a feeling that we would have trouble, I felt like I always knew I'd be the one who'd have trouble trying to conceive.
Anyway, I didn't want to deal with the stress/heartache of trying and trying so I made an apptmt with an RE from the get go. I had bloodwork and a sonogram that showed that I had PCOS, although no other symptoms other than irregular periods and "a string of pearls" in my ovaries in the sono. I had more tests done just to rule anything else out and they were all normal.
My RE was aggressive in his treatment I thought - we had bloodwork, regular sonograms, clomid, an injectible and an IUI all in the 1st cycle AND we successfully conceived our DS who is 8 months now
ETA: I was only 31 when I went to the RE and hadn't TTC yet.
I'm glad I went with my gut. If you are worried, maybe you can have bloodwork and a sono to rule anything out. Good luck.

Re: Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
Is there a reason you think you might have issues or are you just nervous? For example, did you have irregular cycles before you went on the pill (assuming you are on the pill). Unless you have some sort of known issue, I doubt your doctor will do any testing. As for me, I never had regular cycles. TTC for a year and then was finally dx with PCOS. We finally had a successful pregnancy after 18 months of TTCing (and help of an RE).

Re: Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
thanks girls for explaining me the different situations. I am 24 and we are not planing on trying to concieve until I am almost 26. Regarding problem with my cicle it is usually every 40+ days. But the main thing is that I always been very sick since I was a little girl (infections, allergies UTI etc) and I think I just have all that bad experience in the back of my mind that from all that something happen to me..

Nope! I thought I would be pregnant the first month we tried... a year later we found out DH has issues and ended up needing IVF to concieve DS.

Re: Question for moms who encounter some type of problem when TTC
I'll give you a different perspective on the other end. I was told by two Dr.'s that due to my very long and irregular cycles, I would likely have issues conceiving and need medical intervention. Well they were completely wrong and I conceived both of my DD's right away. I think it varies so much, some people can conceive right away on their first and need help for the second or vice versa.
My advice, chart your cycle and get an OPK kit. With long irregular cycles you may need to know when you are ovulating because it will be different from the standard. However in the beginning try not to stress about the process too much. Try to have fun with it. If things do not work out medical intervention is available today to help you.

Same here.
It took us one year exactly. Since I'm over 30, I went to see my Dr after 9 months of trying and she had me try clomid. After our second clomid cycle, I got my BFP.
