Question for mom's who had larger babies...
I am 34 weeks and I went to the dr last night. Dr. told me they are repeating the 32 wk sono at 36 wks, to see how much baby gained...since he was 5 lbs, 5 oz, at 32 wks, which is the 92nd percentile...they want to see how much he gained, and if it is a lot, they are going to re-test me for gestational diabetes..
however, he did say that I may just be having a large baby...
I am so disappointed. I passed the 1 hour, and never had to take the 3 hour...
anyone else go through something similar?
TIA!

Re: Question for mom's who had larger babies...
My son was 9lbs 4oz when he was born, and was a week late. He was measuring fine all along, I passed my glucose test, no issues. Some people just have large babies and have no gest diabetes. They actually tested me early with my second preg to make sure gest diabetes was not a factor, and it wasn't... I just have large kids!
Keep in mind, that not all sono weights are accurate and many woman on here were told they were having very large babies, only to deliver a 6 or 7lb baby.
Good luck!!!!

Re: Question for mom's who had larger babies...
I was told my DS would be 9, and he was 7 lb 10 oz. I wound up being induced due to a slow leak of fluid (so I had no fluid left), and DS had no water weight. When most babies lose in the hospital, he gained nearly a pound.

I really dont think the baby is THAT big. They, on average put on half a pound a week. So in 6 weeks, that would be about 3lbs. Making the baby 8lbs, 5oz.....which is not THAT big at all. DS was 8.7 which is on the larger end but no huge. My Dr wasnt worried at all. Im sure its nothing.

Re: Question for mom's who had larger babies...
I had two babies that were 10lbs and didnt have GD or have to be retested. I passed the hour glucose. My dr. said I was just prone to having larger babies. I didnt gain a lot with each either , no more than about 18lbs.
With my second, my dr. only gave me a growth sono bc I asked for one and was concenred about having an even bigger baby ! the baby was measuring big but he wasnt concerned and wouldn't induce me bc of it earlier
Don't worry at all !!!

Re: Question for mom's who had larger babies...
I had to take the 3 hr two times. First time was b/c dad is an adult onset diabetic so I had to do that not the 1 hr.
Then when baby measured big I had to repeat the 3 hr (33 weeks). All was ok, baby was just big.
My DD was estimated at 5.5 at 32 weeks and it was accurate.

Re: Question for mom's who had larger babies...
DD was in the high percentiles the last 8 weeks. She measured ahead and very big. She was 9lbs 1oz at birth. I had no problems with GD, passed the 1 hour with room to spare. She was just big.

Re: Question for mom's who had larger babies...
I failed the 1hr by one point, and passed the 3hr with flying colors. Baby measured 6.4 at 32w (off the charts) and I had to re-do the 3hr. Passed again no prob. Baby measured 8.5 at 36w and they made me test AGAIN!!!! Shocker, passed again. DS was 9lb 10oz at birth, just a big boy.

DS measured big throughout my whole pregnancy. No GD here.
He had a huge head which is why he measured big.

Thank you, I am sure it is nothing, as well...and so happy to hear that the sonos are off sometimes. However, I still had 8 weeks left when they measured him at 5.5...so that would actually be 9.5, which is fairly big..lol! They said at last night's appt..he is on track to be closer to 10lbs....ouch...
At least there is big possibility that they are off with their calculations...
Thanks again for the help!

Re: Question for mom's who had larger babies...
I had 2 over 10lbs almost 11 lb babies but didn't need to get tested over for GD. I passed the 1 hour test and that was it. At 32 weeks w/my first baby he was 5lbs 12oz and my second son was over 6 lbs.
All doctors are different. Don't worry too much about it. Sorry you have to take the 3 hour. I never had too. We just have big babies!
