Question for mommies who had larger babies...
Just had a 32 week sono, and the baby is "gigantic" according to my dr...all is fine, just a big baby
They said that the baby will not be less than 9 lbs, possible closer to 10.
So, my question is....do I need newborn sizes? Or do I just load up on 0-3 months, or 3-6 months?

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
i was told the SAME THING.
the DAY i went into the hospital to be induced (a day before my scheduled induction) - i was told Emma was 10 pounds, 2 ounces (can't remember if the 2 ounes is right - but he said 10 pounds for SURE).
she came out at 8 pounds, 2 ounces. We needed newborn clothing - but i only had a little bit of it. Sheesh - she fit some PREEMIE clothing at one point!
what i was told by the wonderful women on this board (i posted a VERY similar question then) was to have some newborn stuff in the house - but don't wash it - keep receipts. If you need it - it's there and you don't have to 'run to the store' - but if you don't need it - you can return it.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
My DD was 8lbs 15 oz and she fit in newborn for less than a week, so I'd probably skip the NB size.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
DS was 8 lbs 7 oz but there were going to induce me had I not gone into labor on my own due to his size. They were guessing he was over 9 lbs. DS never wore NB size. We went straight to 0-3 months and size 1 diapers. Good Luck!!!

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
I am proof that those growth sonos can be off.
My entire pregnancy DS was measuring big (his head anyway). The day my water broke they measured him at over 10lbs. He ended up being 8lbs9ozs. He only wore newborn for about 2 weeks. Then he wore 0-3mos. I personally wouldn't load up on newborn sized stuff. In fact, DS never wore newborn diapers. He kept leaking out at the hospital so on day 3 he was in size 1's.
He was in 0-3 mos until he was about 3 mos, then he was 3-6 mos. Now at 9.5 mos, he's in 9 mos stuff (he's thinned out a lot). He will be heading into 12 mos I'd say in about a month.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
They guessed DS was 9 bs, but he was 7lb8oz. because my water had broken without me knowing it. he gained in the hospital because of this, when most babies lose the water weight.
what was more than weight was length--DS was 22.5 inches at birth, and now at 4 months is 28 inches and is in 9 or 12 month clothes because of the length. he's thin (15 lbs 3 oz at 4 months), but long, and the length requires him to get bigger sizes.
he wore hardly any NB, and 0-3 for a couple weeks. i'd keep the tags on anything NB or 0-3.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
First, NB sizes are SO tiny you're better off getting 0-3 months even if the baby wasn't measuring large. They might be a little big but they grow so fast they will grow into them in no time.
Regarding the sonos............take them with a grain of salt. I had sonos every week for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy because of my GD and at the last one they told me my DC was going to be AT LEAST 10lbs. She was born 8lbs 8oz, obviously smaller than predicted.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
DS was 8lbs 11 oz. and he wore NB for 2 weeks. I would maybe have 2-3 articles in NB and the rest 0-3 and 3-6

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
They scheduled Noah 2 weeks early in part because he was "HUGE" - he wound up being only 9 and a half.
But we used 0-3 month clothes for a good solid month or two I'd say. But I was never a fan of clothes that were too loose or big on my kids. My SIL was putting her 8lb baby in 9mos size to show everyone what a giant baby he was. I dunno.. he looked lost in the stuff to me!

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
My growth sonos were pretty much right on. He measured around 9lbs 4 days before he was born and was 9 lbs, 1 oz.
I had one newborn outfit, which he wore home from the hospital and maybe once or twice after that. He lived in a diaper and the snap tees for the first 2 or 3 weeks we were home, but it was November and I wasn't taking him out anywhere. Everything I had, except for that one newborn outfit was 0-3 months, because I figured even if he wasn't over 9 lbs., he would be soon enough. We never used NB diapers, either.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
DS was born at 9lbs 14 oz and 22.5 inches. He is a pretty large boy!
I used NB and 0-3 month clothes interchangeably. The NB i retired after about 2 weeks. During those 2 weeks 0-3 was noticeably big on him where NB fit perfectly. So if you have/get a few NB things I wouldnt worry and exchange them but to get more bang for your buck 0-3m clothes will last you longer.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
at 37 weeks my growth sono said 7lb 1 oz. which meant DS would be 8lb 6oz. DS was born at 8lbs 15oz but 21 inches. i didnt have any newborn clothes already washed...i figured id hold on to it, but return it if needed. when we got home the 0-3m swam on him and i had to wash all the newborn clothes. BUT the 0-3m onesies fit him perfectly. it's the actually clothes that were too big on him. hes a skinny boy, just tall. so hes 2 weeks old right now and right now wearing a 0-3m onesie under a newborn one piece outfit.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
My DD was 8 pounds even, all the nursery staff called her "the big girl", she was the biggest baby born that day. She never fit into newborn sizes, only 0-3. She is 12 weeks tomorrow and is just starting to wear 3-6.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
I gave birth to a toddler.
He was a few weeks early and was 11 pounds, 8 ounces. He was also nearly 23 inches. We knew he would be big, just not that big. His torso is much longer than his legs and always has been. He came home from the hospital in 6-9 month onesies. If we put him in pants for the first month (born in August), he wore 3-6 month pants. So babies can wear different sizes for different things.
That being said: My advice is to wash mainly 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes. Also, wash a newborn outfit or two. But keep receipts and keep tags on for as many outfits as you can. If you have no receipts for some things, wash those first!
Also, don't open too many boxes of diapers, if any. Our son came home in size 2 diapers. You'll know what size your baby is wearing before getting home from the hospital, so whoever is home while you're both in the hospital, make sure they open diapers after you give birth. YOu can always exchange unopened diapers.
Last piece of advice: gerber clothes run VERY small. DS only wore 12 month Gerber clothing, so know that the size on the tag isn't always true.
Good luck! If you have any other questions, feel free to FM me.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
DS was 8lbs 7oz and was in newborn for about a month. We got him his coming home outfit in 0-3 bc of his estimated weight. "he was a big baby" and I declined being induced for it. I had him vaginally, just fine.
But anyway, he was SWIMMING in the 0-3 outfit we took him home in.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
They told me the exct same thing and DD was born 9lbs 9oz and did not fit in anything size Nb, not clothing or diapers.
I would skip it all together.

My DS was 9 lbs 22 inches at birth and wore newborn stuff for a few weeks but it was worth having a handful of outfits.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
I was in the same exact position. Turns out DD came one month early, so I did need newborn for a few weeks (but could have gotten away with 0-3). I would have some newborn, but more 0-3.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
Both my boys were almost 11 lbs and 22inches long. They needed to go to the children's ward just to get diapers that fit them! They needed size 1. They never fit in the newborn diapers. They also never fit in Newborn clothes. They're so cute, but never fit them. I had to start out with 3-6 month clothes, and those didn't even last that long!

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
Well this will probably confuse you more than help you but -
DD#1 was born at 9lbs 4 ozs and 20 inches. She went straight into 0-3 she "might" have fit into newborn - but I didn't have any and the 0-3 wasn't big enough that I felt I needed the next size smaller.
DD#2 was born at 9lbs 5 ozs and she was also 20 inches. Now 0-3 was SO big on her that she couldn't wear any of the outfits that fit her sister at birth. My mother had to go out and buy several newborn outfits for my DD to wear for the 1st few weeks. She wore newborn I think for 2-3 weeks.
I would suggest that you mainly have 0-3 at home - but also have a few newborn outfits. I would not watch the newborn things - and try the 0-3 if they are too big then pull out the newborn clothes - if they are too small just have someone return them.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
I was told that my son was going to be the second coming of the whale in Jonah's belly. However, he ended up weighing 8lbs 5oz. He wore NB clothes for a short time but transitioned quickly to 0-3. I wouldn't buy much in NB. In the beginning, my son wore jammies most of the time.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
I was told that DD would be at least 10lbs and that they would not let me go past 39 weeks. She was born at 38weeks and was 8lbs 11oz. She wore NB clothes and diapers for about a month and then we went to 0-3 and size 1 diapers.

Re: Question for mommies who had larger babies...
3 weeks before my due date....growth sono said 8 lbs 2 oz, born 2 weeks later (1 week early) he was 9 lbs, 11oz and 22 inches. He was in nb cloths for about a week. There are some that only go up to 8lbs though, so I would def skip those. It's good to have a few pieces on hand (maybe just some of the side snap onesies). You never know if you're going to go a little early, but I would buy more of the 0-3 stuff than nb
