I am not required to be available but depending on the circumstances I sometimes am.
If I am out for a few days and am staying local, I make myself available by phone and will check my email. If I'm away on a full-blown vacation, then no, not at all.
Pretty much the same for me. If I'm local I'm pretty much available by cell phone at all times if needed. I think I was in FL once and work called but it was a quick call.

I'm a teacher - but DH works all the time on vacation. He doesn't mind, since he will take the time back somewhere else (like golfing on a work day - which he is still reachable), plus it makes his job secure.
