question for parents dealing with eczema??
How often do your bathe your DC? I haven't been giving him a bath every night, more like every other, because I thought it would dry out his skin too much. Sometimes the day after a bath, it seems like maybe his skin is better - maybe the wet skin absorbs the moisturizer better?
I was wondering what other people do. TIA!

Re: question for parents dealing with eczema??
I have 2 eczema babies, i give them both a bath 2 times a week in winter and 3 times max in the summer. The soap and water i find dry out the skin too much making the eczema worse.
I give them washcloth baths in between and lotion them up everyday.
I use dove soap on them, and they don't stay in the bath for more than 10 mins.

Re: question for parents dealing with eczema??
I try not to bathe DD too often. If anything, I will wipe her face down and put a comb under the water and get all the gunk out of her hair. I try to aim for a bath every 3 days...she has very dry skin, so I will still lotion/Aquaphor her up every night.

Re: question for parents dealing with eczema??
I give him a bath every other or every 3rd day. It seems to me that his skin is less dried out on this schedule.
However, there has been research that shows daily baths help heal eczema. A lot of the parents on Babycenter's Babies with Skin Problems board feel this works best for their kids, and there are a number of threads discussing their experience with it.
My friend was told by their dermatologist to bathe her dd every day, and then put a layer of damp clothes on under her street clothes so the skin stays hydrated all day. She doesn't do that, but she does bathe every day.

Cathy, thanks for the link, there's a lot of helpful advice on there.
Have any of you seen a ped. dermatologist?

We did, I really liked her. She understood my concern with using cortizone so much, which was what the ped. & allergist both said to use long term. She prescribed a non-steriodal creme that has worked better than cortizone did, which I'm so relieved about. I was literally losing sleep over thinking about the long term side effects.
South Nassau Dermatology We went to the Levittown office and saw Dr. Roxanne Abitbol. They also have offices in Long Beach & Oceanside.

Re: question for parents dealing with eczema??
I was give dd bath every other day and i load her up on Aquaphor ointment right after. On the days shes not bathed i wipe her down with warm wash cloth adn then reapply ointment if she needs it.
I have just started bathing everyday b/c of putting sunscreen on her during sunny days and she loves to knock the spoon out of my hand and gets covered in her food.
eta: dermatologist i took my dd to was in Massapequa on broadway. if you want info let me know.

Re: question for parents dealing with eczema??
If dd had broken skin from scratching her eczema she received a bath almost every night or every other because I didn't want it to get infected. Now that she has no breakouts she gets a bath about every 2-3 days, same as DS.
