Question for the asthma moms...

Our pediatrician has advised us (way back in the beginning) against using any type of decongestant on Emily because of her asthma. They said that it could dry out her mucus membranes and that she needs them as moist as possible for her asthma.

But she has SUCH a runny nose today. I would really like to give her a dosage of sudafed or something along those lines, of course just the appropriate dosage for her age/weight.

Has anyone else been advised against using decongestants with their asthmatic child?

Re: Question for the asthma moms...

my ds has still not been formally diagnosed with asthma, but he has all the symptoms, is on a nebulizer from time to time and on singulair everyday. but besides that, lol. My ped always allows my ds to take dimetapp for a runny nose.

If her nose is running I wouldn't give her Sudafed. It's just going to make it run more.
