Question for the SAHMs
Did you always know you wanted to be a SAHM or did you decide that when pregnant or after you had your first child?

Re: Question for the SAHMs
I became a sahm about a month ago(Shannon was 6 mths),, I never thought I was going to be but the job I was at was not the greatest so why pay someone else to watch her.. I am home now, and until we can't make ends meet I will be home, and I really do love it..

Re: Question for the SAHMs
I didn't think I would be, but after I got pregnant and my dh & I discussed everything, we just decided that I wouldn't work.

Re: Question for the SAHMs
I never wanted to be a SAHm, but when we moved a 1000 miles away from family we had no choice for me to be a SAHM. If i made more than DH he would of been the SAHD.
now that i am a SAHM, i would NOT trade it for the world. It did take me a year to come to this point though.

I would say yes.....my mom was always home so it's what I knew......just wasn't sure if I'd be able to do it.

Re: Question for the SAHMs
Since we were trying for a while and I was laid off from my job, my DH and I decided for me to stop looking for a job and I would get pregnant and stay at home. We said that if money got very tight, we would discuss me going back to work after the baby was born. Well, money is better and we are trying to get back on our feet, but at this time my DH would like me to still stay home.

Me too. In High School I used to say that I wanted to be a SAHM and my art teacher would go nuts. At the end of the year she wrote in my yearbook "It's 1992 not 1952" I still laugh when I think about that. Now its 2006 and I have been "retired" for 3 years.

Re: Question for the SAHMs
DH and I discussed it before we got PG. We both grew up in homes with SAHM's and agreed that is what we wanted for our children as well.
Growing up I had mixed emotions.. I didn't go around telling people " I want to be a stay at home mom when I grow up" lol but it was always in the back of my head.

Re: Question for the SAHMs
I've known I wanted to be a SAHM way before I even got married. If DH wasn't supportive of that idea, it would have been a dealbreaker when we were dating.
We planned for this since the day we moved in together and combined our finances-- only looking at houses we could afford on DH's income alone, always living on DH's income and banking mine, etc.
I really enjoy staying home, though it's only been 6 months now!

Re: Question for the SAHMs
I knew when I was pregnant with my first child that I wanted to be a SAHM. My mom was...and I felt I wanted to be also. Unfortunately, I became a SAHM right AFTER I got my 30 above (my Master's) credits in the city (teaching) and never got paid on that higher scale. Oh well, it was the first of MANY sacrifices for my children. But I do love being a SAHM!

Same thought here. My mom was a SAHM to the 6 of us and I wanted the same. I am fortunate enough that DH can provide for us. I would have no problem working if I had to.
DH on the other hand, while he fully supports me staying home, wants me to keep up with my engineering career because he says I worked too long and too hard to get to where I was before I stopped working. He has a point, but I love being with my kids.

Re: Question for the SAHMs
My mother stayed home with us, I knew I wanted the same. That was our plan from years back, moving to NC made it possible.

Re: Question for the SAHMs
yes, I basically made this decision from when I was a teenager. My mom was a sahm and I wanted to be just like her. It continued as I got older and I never have felt otherwise. I may have to go back to work soon and Im not looking foward to it.
