Question for those that pump multiple times throughout the day.

I have been pumping every other feeding so that I can build up my freezer supply for when I go back to work and also to increase my supply. My question is this: What do you do with the parts in between each pumping session?
-clean with hot soapy water?
-sterilize parts?
-a friend of mine told me that she pumps and puts everything back in the fridge inbetween sessions during the day because the fridge keeps the BM that is on the parts "safe" and she just contines to pump on top of that until she has enough to fill the bottle and then cleans/sterilizes at night. I was kinda taken aback by that but at the same time thought it could be a good idea.
I appreicate some feedback. Thanks.Chat Icon

I wash them every time and sterilize them. I also pump at work I bring two sets of supplies. I wash/sterilize them before I come and bag them and them unwrap them when I am going to pump.

I always cleaned the parts with hot soapy water. I personally would never do what your friend is doing.

I never sterilize my pump parts. I wash them in hot soapy water with antibacterial dish soap. If I am making a freezer bag, often I will start it one day and then finish it the next. If you do that, just put the date as the date that you first put the milk in it.

I pump 3x at work.

I don't have access to hot water here... so I use the Medela wipes 2x.

After the third time, I put the parts into a ziploc and wash in hot, soapy water at home.

I read somewhere that it was ok to put the parts in the fridge, just like your friend does, so that's what I've been doing.

From what I understand, it is OK to put freshly expressed BM into BM that is refrigerated.

As for the actual parts of the pump, the breast shields, when I pump at an office, I wash them off in between sessions with hot, soapy water. I wouldn't put those pieces in the refrigerator. But I don't see any issue with pumping into the bottles that were in the refrigerator.

When I'm at home, I wash them in hot soapy water. When I'm at work, I bring enough sets with me (one set per pump session) and put them in a baggie when I'm done. I wash them in hot, soapy water when I get home.

Every once in a while, if I drop the pieces on the floor at work or I'm too tired to wash them I'll do the "fridge trick" which is what your friend is describing. I know a couple people that do the fridge trick every day and nothing's ever happened to the milk.

This is what I did as well.

I washed the parts at night before bed in warm, soapy water.

When I used to pump at work I would rinse with soapy water after each session and then. Put the parts in the fridge (i had a cooler bag so I just put them in there with the milk). Then each night I would either run them through the dishwasher or wash with hot soapy water.

I wash them every time. I used to sterlize more often, now I do it every now and then.
