Question for those that work out in the morning?
If you work out early, do you eat something before hand? If you do, what do you eat? I usually make a green smoothie in the morning and add some protein if I drink it after a work out. I'm going to a spin class at 830. I'm usually starving in the morning, and don't think I will have any energy if I don't eat.

If I work out first thing in the morning (within like an hour or so of getting up), I do not eat anything beforehand. If I'm going to work out a little later in the am, sometimes I will eat toast with pb and banana.

Re: Question for those that work out in the morning?
I don't eat before cardio in the early am. If I'm doing weights I do eat before.

Re: Question for those that work out in the morning?
Always. It is so important for your body to have something in your stomach so that you are not burning off muscle. I posted an article on this a ways bag. If i am just doing cardio, I eat a rice cake with a tiny bit of PB on it. I schedule my weight training after a larger meal but if you are lifting early I would have a rice cake and a protein shake. SO SO important. you are seriously doing your body a disservice by not eating something first.

I always eat a granola bar before a workout, or else I won't have ANY energy. Nothing too filling and nothing too liquidy or else its coming up

Re: Question for those that work out in the morning?
I decided to have a smoothie with spinach, kale, blueberries, banana, almond milk and flax seed. I drank it a little over an hour before I went to spin. It gave me energy and didnt make my stomach feel heavy.
All the articles I read either said you shouldn't eat before cardio so you burn more fat. Other experts say you need to eat an hour or two before because your body needs the carbs. So confusing!! I'm glad I ate though.

Question for those that work out in the morning?
Nothing before cardio. Fasted cardio gets you lean. Something small before weights. But BCAA's always right after

Re: Question for those that work out in the morning?
There are def opinions on both sides. Fasting cardio is best for me... Research has shown fasting long runs to be very beneficial for distance races. ( I do eat a little something before races.) Post workout nutrition is very important though. Especially if fasting before. I have a great article on post workout nutrition I can get for you. This works for me and my goals. Intense cardio will also reduce blood flow to your digestive system resulting in cramps and worse if you eat too much before. When I do eat (before races) it has to be 1.5 hours before minimum.

Same. If I run in the morning, though, I do it first thing. If I dawdle and don't go right away, then I eat breakfast and wait an hour.

Definitely debatable. Can't forget the thermic effect that food possesses. Im not saying have a huge meal but pre cardio 10-15 grams carbs is always a good idea. At least in my experience and from what I read.

Re: Question for those that work out in the morning?
If I go at 5am & doing cardio then I only eat a banana because I've hit a wall & low sugar too many times.
If I go at 9am, then I eat my normal oatmeal or cereal.
