Question for those who put newborn directly into crib
My little girl has no problems going to sleep, but once I put her in her crib she cries. Once she gets to sleep she's fine, its just getting her to actually go to sleep.
Any tricks to make her more comfy in her crib?

I put Jared in the crib from the start. I would wrap him tight and swaddle him in his blanket. He always slept fine.

thanks. I swaddle her legs but she doesn't seem to like her arms swaddled. Her arms are always movung & I think she actually wakes herself up by hitting herself. Do you think I should swaddle her arms even though I don't think she likes it?

I would put his arms at his sides and roll him up in the blanket. By the time he woke up, his arms would be out. It's good to tuck the arms because they wake themselves up while rubbing their face.

We didn't - DDs didn't like to be swaddled after we came home from the hospital either.
They spent 2 nights in the pack 'n play and a few nights in the Papasans, then we transitioned to the crib - we put them on those sleep inclines and left the light on the first few times (like in the hospital nursery). Try the pacifier too that soothes them. We would let them fall asleep in our arms then put them in the crib. It took awhile but now they sleep there with no problems.

Re: Question for those who put newborn directly into crib
What about making her a little nest. Take 2 blankets and roll them up on either side. Remember, she was all nice and cozy and nested inside of your tum! Thats what they do with babies in the NICU, they make them little nests so they don't feel so vulnerable.
When Noah was teensy tiny I put rolled up blankets in his co-sleeper so he didn't feel like he was sleeping out in the open! Give that a go!

Re: Question for those who put newborn directly into crib
Rachel that sounds like a great idea, but doesn't that go against all the SIDS advice for not putting anything in the crib? Hannah tends to sleep on her side and spin herself around in the crib throughout the night...her head ends up where her feet started!!
Sorry I'm new at all this and don't have much help.

Re: Question for those who put newborn directly into crib
Well there are a lot of other factors involved with SIDS (in my opinion and what I gather from reading the information) and I never felt like we were at risk. It wasn't really something I thought about, also Noah was a side sleeper and I used to use a blanket to prop him up on his side. So for me, it was all good. But if you are uncomfortable about doing that, why not buy a sleep positioner. that might do the same thing...

I'd give it a try. Babies don't always know what is best for them and take some convincing!

I agree with this. If that doesn't work, how about trying the halo sleep sack with the swaddling arms.

I did the same as Stefanie - but I always kept his arms out. Michael also had a sleep positioner that was slightly elevated and soft I think that was cozy for him... But I'm not one to really help here, I never put him down awake and I am lucky that never backfired on me!
