Question for those who Sold their House

Did you leave a little something for the new homeowners? I thought I might leave a bottle of wine or a plant, but I don't know. The people we bought the house from just left us a bunch of their junk ()

We gave the seller a bottle of wine, but that was because he repaired our chimney the correct way with all new bricks and a new cap, and also put a banister up on the stair case.

I think it would be a nice idea to leave them a note and a bottle of wine.

We left a bottle of champagne with a note wishing them happiness in their new home.

To be honest, the main reason we did it was because our moving company wouldn't take alcohol, and the entire backseat of our car was already full of wine and liquor.

I busted my 8 month preggo behind and cleaned the kitchen inside and out. Actually I cleaned the whole house with the exception of the office and laundry room floor. They really could have moved just in. Looking back, I wish I didn't because I doubt they even appreciated it considering the way the house looks today.

When my parents moved into their house, the previous owners left a bottle of champagne tied with a red bow, and a note welcoming to their new home and with their new address in case any mail came for them. They also left the hosue spotless. My mom came in ready to clean and she said that it was amazing how clean it was.

I think it really made the experience wonderful for them. It's a nice touch.

i was thinking of leaving a couple packages of address change post cards or something. maybe some stamps too?

i actually was thinking of new toilet seats, but then thought... they may have a specific liking of seats... cushy, or wood, or soft close, etc... so i thought better of it.

The people that sold our house left us a bottle of champagne in the fridge. We still haven't opened it though.

We got all the manuals for all the appliances and a clean house. That was about it, but I appreciated it.

One thing I would do which is more thoughtful than pricey, is getting take-out menus from good places around the area and leaving them in the kitchen.

Something else I would have loved to have is old pictures of the house. They did leave a planter that was purchased by the original owners of the house in the 50's. I thought that was pretty cool.

We left the buyer a bottle of champagne in the frig.

The house we bought - the sellers had it professionally cleaned from top to bottom.

Our sellers left us a bottle of wine, a little daisy plant and a card with best wishes. We thought it was really nice!

We are closing on Tuesday. We are leaving them pictures of the original homeowner's family and the house from 1920, which I think are very nice to have (we got them from our neighbors). No other gifts.

I love the idea of leaving some type of plant that they can plant outside. This way they can watch it grow as the years pass in their new home. I thank that is really sweet. (Plus not everyone drinks, so while wine and champagne are very nice, it may not always be the best thing to give). It's the thought that counts though!

they left us all the appliance manuals and important papers..

but most of all they left us a pool cleaner that is worth $300 bucks.. they could have easily taken that. it was a nice gesture i thought

The house was built in 2001, so I don't think pictures of the original owners/house would be that exciting And they are moving from the same town so that eliminates any need for menus.

I don't plan on leaving anything chanmpagne or wine... I'm leaving my desk L-Shape Desk in the basement-home office (I did ask them if they wanted it) Maybe I'mm put a note on the desk, i'll see about my mood on moving day

I wasn't suggesting you weren't going to do the same! Maybe you could leave some strategically placed hairballs though.

In your case, maybe a bottle of champagne with a note would be a nice gesture.

I left them a sparkling, completely spotless house, that's what i left them!

The sellers left us a bottle of champagne and a card.

Although we had a very awkward closing where they were mad at their lawyer for things that were included in the contract that they signed that they 'didn't notice'.. all sorts of yelling etc... we were so glad to just get out of there and be done with them. then when we got to the house there was the bottle waiting for us

i think no matter what, its a really nice gesture.

I almost left the person who bought my house a Dyson vacuum cleaner but instead I bought her a new Dish Washer...

Our sellers left us a gift cert to a local restaurant and bought us all new toilet seats. i thought it was very nice of them
