Question: pacifiers
Are you not supposed to use them if BFing? If not for how long? When I told the L&D nurse I was against any bottle feedings she said they'd put a sign in her crib "no bottles, no pacifiers".

Re: Question: pacifiers
I've given both of my babies a pacifier while still at the hospital without any issues. (DD#1 BFed for 26 months, DD#2 is still going at 8 months)
If your baby latches well, I wouldn't worry.
Its if you are having trouble getting a latch that the pacifier can cause complications...

Re: Question: pacifiers
If your baby is a good latcher...it shouldn't be a problem. With my DD I said no formula, and no pacifiers. I ended up having to stay in the hospital longer because she developed jaundice and we had to give her formula to poop and pee more before being released. We gave her a pacifier once we got home and had no issues.
With DS I let them give him formula for the night feedings so I could rest up and he had no issues latching in the hospital or when we got home. We also gave him a pacifier in the hospital this time.

Re: Question: pacifiers
my dd never took to a paci, not even in the hospital. If you want to BF, I would recommend not giving a paci until your latch and supply is established

Re: Question: pacifiers
DS is 4 weeks and I am EBF. He only gets a paci if he needs help getting back to sleep or if someone is holding him and he is a little fussy.
I did not give him a paci in the hospital at all. I wanted to make sure he had a good latch on the breast and didn't want the paci to throw in any unnecessary confusion.

Re: Question: pacifiers
I just went to a BF class last night and they recommend waiting at least 3-4 weeks before you introduce bottles and/or pacifiers. I don't really know what the right answer is though, that was the instructor's recommendation.
