Question re: antibiotics UPDATE
DD has a really bad double ear infection. I started giving her the amoxicilan on Monday. It's now Friday and she still seems uncomfortable. Covering both ears with her hands, tugging and just really cranky which is not typical for her. She whines and cries alot throughout the night and her naps are much shorter.
I called the ped yesterday and the nurse said just because she's on the antibiotic doesn't mean she doesn't have pain, to give her tylenol every 4 hours.
Honestly DD has had quite a few ear infections and always seems better after a couple of days. I feel like the antibiotic isn't working this time.
Should I call again? I just don't want her to be miserable until Monday.
Thanks

Re: Question re: antibiotics
I would call again. DS has had 5 ear infections since he has been born and after a day or two he already starts to feel better.

Re: Question re: antibiotics
Thanks. I called and got the same nurse. I pretty much told her, I want her to be seen since the weekend is coming up and she's not herself yet.
She responded - I see she has a history of ear problems. OK how about 12. She couldn't have looked at it yesterday

Re: Question re: antibiotics UPDATE
Matty finished up amoxocillan last Tuesday due to an ear infection. Later that day, he spiked a 103 fever to find out after 72 hours of fevers that the other ear is now infected. The Dr. prescribed another type of medicine. I'd call again.

Re: Question re: antibiotics UPDATE
Just an FYI: there are strains of bacteria that are resistant to regular amoxicillin. If your child isn't feeling better within 3 full days or so of amoxicillin, I would say you may have a resistant strain and should go back to the ped. Augmentin usually does the trick. The extra ingredient in Augmentin helps to fight the resistant bacteria. If your child has a history of recurrent ear infections, the doc may just go to the Augmentin first, but usually it is best to try plain amoxicillin first.
