Question re: Endometriosis
I haven't officially been diagnosed with endo yet - that will happen shortly I'm sure. But, I have a question: If you have it, when does it hurt the most? Meaning...before AF, durring, after, all the time, etc.? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Kathy

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
Kathy as you already know, I have endo ..
Unfort. every case is different (everyone has different symptoms too) but in my particular case, I used to get the most severe pain before AF was due and during. The other weeks in the month, I generally felt ok.
However I prob. had endo for years before I was diagnosed, and the only reason I became suspicious that I had it was because I was having pain around my ovaries ALL THE TIME .. after 2-3 months or that, I finally went for the lap procedure and they saw that I did, indeed , have endo
The weird part about endo is that often when its a mild case (like mine was) you can have bad symptoms/pain.. and often when you have a severe case of endo, you don't always have syptoms or pain at all!
I started a thread on TTC on LIWs when I was diagnosed, where a lot of people gave me great advice.. I'll try to search for it, there is some good info on there

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
Kathy, like Felicia said, every case is different, but a telltale sign of endo is very painful periods. That's the first question my RE asked me. You can sometimes tell from a sonogram whether or not you have it, so that's the first step my RE took. (Just a warning, I thought I was just going in for a consultation on my first appt with my RE, but she did a sonogram that day, so yours might do the same.) My sister has endo and has pain every day. They think I might have endo. I have mild pain all month long, but most severe when AF comes around. GL at your appt!

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
Thanks Ladies, I pretty much have pain all month long. Some days its mild.moderate and some its just plain BAD. Like today it's hurting me a bit but I also feel so sick to my stomach. I'm pretty sure (judging from my symptoms) that I have it too - I really want to know why Im in pain and feel so sick and tired so much of the time.

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
it would be while my best friend had AF....she was on RX pain killers and she'd be doubled over in pain and crying! I think it's also when right before AF came it would hurt too but not as much.

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
for two months, i had af backing up into my system and i am CONVINCED that i developed endo from that.....my doc said that two months was not enough to cause it, but i have been having pain in my right ovary during ovulation ever since i developed ashermans.
is pain in the ovaries during ovulation a symptom of endo? also, are endo biopsies and laps the only sure ways to diagnose it?
i am going for a hsg in three weeks - can they tell anything from that?
thanks in advance!

When my OBGYN suspected I had endo based on the symptoms I was describing, she sent me to an RE who then told me that the only way to truly diagnose endometriosis was to have the laparscopy procedure done.. at which point they can see if there is endo, they can detect the severity of it AND if its not severe, they can usually remove it right then and there.
I am fairly certain that you cannot diagnose endometriosis via an endo biopsy and/or an HSG
Only in the cases where the endo is severe might you need another type of procedure to remove it
You might find these links helpful - I did when I was gearing up for my lap procedure
Laparoscopy
Another Lap Link
Good luck!!

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
Kara, My OBGYN told me the only way to diagnos endo is with a laperscopy. But based on my symptoms she is pretty certain I do have it. She referred me to an RE and they will find out for sure - via laperscopy - I'm sure. I have the type of pain you described - all the time pretty much. But you can also have that pain when you are ovulating. the endometrial biopsy cant detect endo - I dont think. Neither can an HSG usually. Although the HSG will show if you have blocked tubes and can show if you have pollups

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
thank you, guys for the great info...
i guess after my ashermans treatment, we will "try" for three or four months......if nothing happens, i will go to a specialist and start tesing for endo....
unless the pain gets worse, then i will start sooner...what do you guys think?
it's so hard, i am not sure what course of action to take anymore. i just want to give up. i have only been married for seven months and it has been the toughest seven months of my life.....my poor dh....
well, even though i don't post much anymore, i have been following everyone's stories and i wish everyone the BEST and MOST baby dust in the entire world....every morning i log on wishing one of us would announce a pregnancy already!!!!!

What kind of treatment are they giving you for Ashermans? Are you seeing an RE?

Re: Question re: Endometriosis
i am currently taking estrogen for 30 days followed by 5 days of progesterone. after that is completed, i will have and hsg and a mid-cycle ultrasound to see if any scar tissue has grown back.
i will have the hsg and u/s done by someone here and then the results are being fowarded to the ashermans specialist who did my surgery in california - he will have the final say regarding my post-op treatment.
