Don't know if this is the right board - but it doesn't belong in careers - because I don't have one at this point
I'm completely confused. My old job called me on 12/16 informing me I had been laid off. They told me I'd receive my last offical pay check on 12/31 - but I got it sooner, and then I'd receive my severance pay on 1/15 in 1 lump sum. They also told me my "official" seperation date is 1/9 but I didn't need to report back to work. Not really sure how to go about filing for unemployment now?

It's weird right? I mean the check I'm going to get on 1/15 will be 1 month of salary but it's severance. As if they didn't make my life hell already, now they have to add confusion to it as well.

You can't file until your official seperation date... and then they hold back one week so you won't get your first unemployment "check" (it's a debit card) until the week after that...

yeah, it's a VISA debit card now...directly deposited every week.

yeah, it's a VISA debit card now...directly deposited every week.
You can also choose direct deposit into your bank account.
