Question regarding GLucose Tolerance Test tomoorrow
I know I have to fast after midnight.
But I was wondering if I should avoid sweets and carbs today (the day before) or is it ok to have?

Re: Question regarding GLucose Tolerance Test tomoorrow
is this the 1 or 3 hour? did the doctor or lab tell you to fast? if not, then you should not fast.
avoid carby foods the night before is all that was suggested to me.
please, please, please, be aware that there is NOTHING you can do to pass if you have GD and fail if you don't. It's in your blood....it's NOT under your control.

My doctor specifically told me no food after midnight. My test is at 9:15 am and I am so nauseous in the am that the no food is ok with me.
It is the 1 hour test.

GOOD that your doc told you to fast....(there are so many people on here that fast because of what they read on here that i WORRY for them)....
just try to avoid carby/sugary foods for lunch/dinner... that's all i'd really do..
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Question regarding GLucose Tolerance Test tomoorrow
My Doc didn't say anything about fasting. Just watch your carbs or sugar if you have breakfast in the morning. Oh, and he said no food or drinks after you take the glucose drink.

I am having it done in the lab. So what happens..they take my blood, I drink that drink and then just sit there for an hour and they re-check my blood after one hr???

Re: Question regarding GLucose Tolerance Test tomoorrow
i honestly don't recall if they take your blood BEFORE...but you drink the drink (you have a certain amount of time TO drink it) and then you sit there for an hour and they take your blood after. During that hour - you cannot eat or drink anything.
it's not a HUGE drink - not a one sipper - but i think it took me 4 or 5 gulps to get it all down.

Re: Question regarding GLucose Tolerance Test tomoorrow
No, they only took my blood exactly one hour after I had the drink. My Doc gave me the drink and I was told to come in about 45 mins after and let them know the exact time I took it.
