Question regarding your 2 year old and sippy cups
DD was evaluated for speech today and the woman said sippy cups are like a bottle. We should only let her use a cup with a straw or a regular cup. I have tried giving her the cups with a straw but all she wants to do it bite it.
Do you have your 2 year old use a regular sippy cup?
How can I get her to suck from the straw and not eat it?

Re: Question regarding your 2 year old and sippy cups
my dd still uses a sippy cup. She also like to drink out of a regular cup but she still makes a mess with that so I only put water in there
she will not use a straw sippy but WILL use those take and toss straw cups

Re: Question regarding your 2 year old and sippy cups
My girls have always used the straw sippy's . I also give them a regular (no lid) cup to drink from when they are drinking water. My girls are 2 1/2 and 19 months old.
have your tried giving her a straw cup?

Re: Question regarding your 2 year old and sippy cups
We use this kind of sippy cup. It has a hard spoy, not a soft rubber nipple like a bottle.

FYI, we were using cups with a flexi straw, but this is what DD bit off and put up her nose last week which landed us in the ER

Re: Question regarding your 2 year old and sippy cups
DS uses all 3. He uses a regular sippy with a hard top at daycare so he makes less of a mess. He uses a straw sippy when out and about with us. When home and having a meal in the high chair, he gets a regular cup. It took a bit of practice with a regular cup but he picked it up pretty quickly. I still don't give him a lot at one time just in case. He didn't get the hang of straws until about 18months--he still tilts the straw cup back like a regular one when he's getting near the end and doesn't understand he won't get anything that way.

Re: Question regarding your 2 year old and sippy cups
We use the hard spout and straw cups. I usually don't let them walk around with a cup in their hand. I try to only give them the cup when they are eating a meal and take it away when they are done. If they don't finish, the cup will go in the fridge.
