question...our 28 month old fell out of bed
She sleeps in a regular sized full bed with a box spring, so its 30" above the floor. She fell head first onto the floor the night before last. she was ok, thank God.
We haf regular sized bed rails up, but she moves alot in the bed. She likes to sleep perpendicular to the bed with her head up to the bed rail- like being in a crib.
She has been in the bed for 2 months now.
We had a baby a month ago, so we put her in her new room and bed so we can put the new baby's stuff in the baby room. I use the crib now for the baby when I take a shower, etc. The new baby sleeps in a bassinet next to my bed.
DH does not want her in the big bed anymore. He had her sleep in the crib last night. I would rather try the longer bed rails before putting her back in the crib, or even lower the bed, or put something on her bed to cushion her just in case in addition to the bed rails. But DH does not want her in the bed at all.
I feel like we are going back to square one. I think it might be confusing. And soon The new baby will be in the at crib, which might make her upset if she gets used to it again.
So today I am faced with the decision of where to put her down for her nap!!!
in the big bed? in her crib? Also, what should we do about sleeping? I want her to be safe, but I don't want to go backwards. I spent a lot of time on preparing that room and bed. :(

I would not put her back in her crib.....my dd sleeps in a full sized bed, no rails (one side is against the wall)
she has fallen out a few times but her room is carpeted so no harm done

Keep her in her bed.
My kids have fallen out of bed plenty of times. No harm (thank god)... 9/10 times they stayed on the floor because the fall didn't even wake them! lol

even in a high bed? How do I convince DH that its ok? I am going to buy the longer rails, but I have to get him to agree with me.

Re: question...our 28 month old fell out of bed
Are you using the crib mattress for the new baby yet (congrats btw!)?
You can put that under her bed for now and pull it out at night (like a trundle). So, if she falls out, she's falling on a mattress.
I wouldn't go back to the crib!
ETS: Ryan only fell out of his bed once, but I put a pillow (full-sized) where the space between the rail and the headboard is, and another on the floor (standing up). We use his old crib mattress between the bed and the wall so he can't fall through. Does this make any sense??

I had that idea too. DH still thinks she can get hurt, so he says no. I am so frustrated.

That is frustrating. She really can't get hurt if she's falling on a mattress or pillow. A little scared sure, but she's not going to break a leg or anything. She does need to learn to sleep in a bed.

Re: question...our 28 month old fell out of bed
she landed directly on her head, not on her side. I called the doctor that night. it was scary. It was a lound thump. I actually caught her two nights before. I got there just in time, just happended to be passing by her room at 3:00 AM. I caught her in mid flight. She was going head first. Not this time, I was asleep.

Re: question...our 28 month old fell out of bed
Sorry I know this won't sound like positive advice but for me I had those same fears as your husband. So AJ is in a toddler bed. Its so much closer to the ground that the converted crib.
I couldnt find a rail for her converted crib that was cheaper than just buying a toddler bed. So I went the bed route. She's fallen out of it several times. But its close enough to the ground that she doesnt even wake up. I have folded blankets at the foot of the bed on the floor and a few spare pillows on the side. Honestly... I walk in and find her asleep on the floor.
Its like a foot from the ground I guess. Mattress (crib mattress) top to the floor itself.
Good Luck!
ETA: AJ has been in a toddler bed since 22m. I don't think I'll have her out of it for years still. She's 2 this month
