Questions about GBS- Strep B Test
I went to the Dr today, saw the PA, not the Dr, which is fine. She handed me a gown to change into saying "I need to check your GBS" Then said "Wait, nevermind, I can check your GBS by your urine" I was not sure what she meant by GBS, but was just reading an email I rec'd from BabyCenter.com and it said "Group B streptococci (GBS)"
Is this an accurate way to test for Strep B? Should I be worried? I had strep (this kind) earlier in pregnancy.
On the BabyCenter.com email it said
"This is done by swabbing the lower end of your vagina and your rectum — the swab is the size of a regular cotton swab, and it won't hurt at all."

Hello again... I've never heard of testing Group B Strep from urine. As far as I know, it's only done by the cotton swab culture. I had it at 36 weeks after my first internal.

They definately did mine with a swab and not with my urine.

If you are positive from urine there is nothing to worry about, you'll get the treatment when in labor and all is well. Its if she said you were negative based on urine alone that I'd be nervous. I think that if you had it earlier than they should assuming you are positive anyway...
