Questions about Prednizone
Does it make you starving all the time within a day and does it interfere with BCP?
I'm on it for Poison Ivy. started yesterday.

Re: Questions about Prednizone
Starving, Yes. Irritable, Yes. Insomnia, Yes.
BCP, I'm not sure, as my Prednizone usually comes with a dose of Antibiotics and those definetly interfere. Not sure about steroids alone.

No wonder I was up last night till 12. For anyone who knows me they know that's unheard of.

Re: Questions about Prednizone
Yes, it gets really bad for me. I'll be up at least half the night. And oh yeah, you might also feel flushed.
Did they give you a taper? You can take all your pills in the morning, as long as you eat something. Then it should keep you up less. Usually when you get info to take X number of pills a day, you spread them out. With steroids its better to take them all in the morning, as per my pharmacist.

Re: Questions about Prednizone
Starving and cravings - its ridiculous. I take it sometimes for my asthma and its always the worst week of my life.
This is why people on prednizone for long term get swollen.

Re: Questions about Prednizone
I believe it does interfere with BCP its been several years since i've taken prednizone, but i do seem to remember the pharmacist saying so it should say it on the warnings/drug interaction info that came with the pills

Re: Questions about Prednizone
Thanks, they have explicit directions about when to take and says 2 at bedtime. Maybe I'll do 2 at dinner instead tonight and skip bedtime, though it's not much after dinner LOL
And I can see myself getting swollen within the week I'll be on them

Maybe you can call the pharmacist and ask. They told me better to take all in the morning at the same time. You can also ask about your BCP concern.
I usually get put on a 2 week taper starting with 5 pills a day for 3 days. Usually every 6 months. I hate you, nasal polyps!

Re: Questions about Prednizone
I take them for cronic tonsilitis (and poison ivy) and man am I hungry and hyper. But I also feel fantastic! I usually get the one week pulse pack and even though I'm starving, it's not enough time to gain weight or to swell
not sure about BCP

Re: Questions about Prednizone
I was on this 3 different times last year for 3 month periods at a time. I was so nervous about it since I was getting married and the last thing I needed was to gain weight before my wedding. I put myself on a very clean eating plan, not a diet, but wouldn't eat anything that had more than 5 ingredients in it. I had very good results! I was NOT hungry more than usual, did not swell up, and slept just fine....also lost about 15lbs because I was so careful!
Two things I learned from my reading about this drug. Keep your sodium intake VERY VERY low and up your potassium in take.
Good Luck!

me too and I'm exhausted because I'm not getting enough sleep.
I'm 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off, 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off [repeat] for chronic hives and facial swelling.
