Questions re: cleaning products
My friends just decided to come for an overnight visit on Friday. We definitely need to clean our place before they visit, but I'm concerned about what I should avoid. What cleaning products are safe to use? Did you buy a particular brand of cleaning products?
Have you changed your cleaning routine since becoming pregnant? Is there anything else I should be aware of re: cleaning? TIA.

Re: Questions re: cleaning products
I have changed my cleaning products...
I'm worried about 2 things.... toxic chemicals and creating allergies in Crouton by keeping a hyper-sterile home...
for the toxic thing, we're slowing transitioning to green cleaners... method, eco products, 7th generation.... as we finish the prior cleaners, we've been testing them out, and so far, they work very well!
For the allergy situation, I've always avoided 'antibacterial' soaps and cleaners... If there are no bugs around to challenge our immune systems, we're more libel to have our systems develop abberent responses to innocuous substances in our environment... hence allergies! The only item in our home that used to kill bacteria were the lysol and cleaner for the toilet. we're slowly transitioning them to green stuff, so they'll be gone too.
In the interim, all nasty cleaners are used only by DH... especially our remaining bathroom cleaners whoah, they're potent......

Re: Questions re: cleaning products
When I was PG with DS I became extremely conscious of what cleaning products I was using. I then started to use only natural, organic cleaners. I have been using them ever since (over 2 yrs). The thought of being PG and breathing in all those chemicals scared me. And then the thought of DS smelling them etc worried me even more.

As long as your house is well ventilated, you can continue using whichever household chemicals you've been using. I used to make my husband take over any chore that had to do with bleach, but other than that I still cleaned and dusted everything myself.

Re: Questions re: cleaning products
I had already been using green/cruelty-free products for years...it was my DH that was stuck on the harsher cleaners (especially for the bathroom). So, he does the heavy bathroom cleaning - keeping the area well ventilated
The rest we continue to do together. Now that I'm 37wks, bending and scrubbing isn't as easy so he takes on more...which is great.
I think the key is just keeping the areas well ventilated and maybe doing little jobs at a time instead of all at once. Whatever you're comfortable with.

Re: Questions re: cleaning products
I changed it bc the fumes were scaring me, so I changed to all green cleaners...not sure if it cleans as well, but I have to remember that smell doesn't equate clean...it just doesn't smell as disenfectanty.....
