Quick Q: took BM out of Fridge &
heated it up under the water & then I decided to nurse her instead, can I put the breastmilk back in the fridge until her next feeding in 2 hours, or is it no longer good since I heated it up a bit (under water). Thx.

I don't understand...can;t you just have kept it out at room temperature? 2 hours isn't a long time. I've heated a bottle and waited two hours before giving it to my DD and it was fine.

I'm under the same impression. I believe the suggested 'safe' time is 2 hours.

Breastmilk at room temperature is good for 8-10 hours. Is it the heating it that diminishes the time that it is good for?

This thread from kellymom.com is very helpful for this sort of question (it's so hard to keep it all straight!).
ETA: Oh yeah, here's the thread:

you CAN reheat BM, but it diminishes the immunologic properties. I would have left the BM out until the next feeding, or taken it back out of the fridge early so that it warms to room temperature.

Breastmilk at room temperature is good for 8-10 hours.
I was told the rule of the 4.
4 hours on counter 4 days in fridge 4 months in freezer
This is so confusing. I was also told that once milk is at room temperature (when it was in the fridge before) it has to be consumed within 1-2 hours max.

This really is so confusing. I have read SO many different things about how long BM can be refrigerated .. ranging from 4 to 8 days - that's a BIG difference!!

I would have kept it. I've heated BM up 2x and DD had no problems. As long as she didn't drink from it it's not a problem.

You could always taste it and see if it tastes sour. I have been told that before.

Re: Quick Q: took BM out of Fridge &
Sometimes during DD's night feeding I will take a bottle out of the fridge b/c I know she will need more milk soon....sometimes it sits out for 8 hours or so and she has always been fine. The nurses in the hospital told me 8-10 hours at room temp. I have read that breastmilk is always good unless it smells bad.
