fridge - prefer side-by-side or top freezer?

Which style fridge do you prefer and why? I love the look of the side-by-side, but I've only ever had top freezer style fridges.

I'm afraid the fridge side in a side-by-side won't be wide enough in the event I'd have to put a tray in it or something... Thoughts?

when we moved into our house, I was so excited we had a side by side. But now, I would so prefer with the freezer on the top or even on the bottom. I find there is not enough room (especially in the freezer). We ended up buying a chest freezer to for the basement.

my MIL bought a new fridge last last year w/the freezer on the bottom (it pulls out like a drawer). I never thought I would like that but I have to say, it was very convenient since most ppl access the fridge a lot more than the freezer.

We prefer to the freezer on top with the frig on bottom b/c it gives us more space for our food

I prefer fridge on top, freezer on bottom.

I have the french door style, with the 2 doors refrigerator and the freezer on bottom!

LOVE IT!!

so much room in the refrigerator and nothing gets "stuck in the back"

I've had side-by-side, freezer on top and freezer on bottom (currently). I, definitely, prefer freezer on bottom. I have more room in the refrigerator section and I like that it is at eye level. After all, you go into your refrigerator more than your freezer.

I've always had the freezer on top. My aunt loves her bottom freezer, and I bet I would love that too....

I dislike the side-by-side. Mom bought one a couple years ago, and despite her refrigerator being much larger than mine, she can't fit as much inside.

Oh, and if you either entertain, or have large family gatherings the side by side is a complete losing situation. Both compartments are too narrow for catering trays, ice cream cake boxes, sheet cakes, pizza boxes.

my parents had a side-by-side and couldn't wait for that thing to die! nothing fits in it - even a simple carton of ice cream only fits one way. now they have the freezer on the bottom and they love it!

If and when we buy a new fridge...we are getting the bottom freezer. My mom has it and loves it!

We have had both--side by side and currently the freezer on bottom. I like the freezer on bottom so much better. It has so much more room for trays ect.....and the freezer on bottom is bigger and better.

We got a new fridge when we moved into our house and we got a fridge with french doors and a bottom freezer. We love it!

We got it for the same reason of being able to put a big tray or cake or something like that in the fridge.

The house we bought has a side-by-side and at first I was excited, because I've never had a fridge like that.

Now, I hate it. There's no room for anything!

I thought the freezer on the bottom would be bad.

I didn' want to be bending over all the time to get stuff out. My Grandmother had a freezer on the bottom and I remember it was a hassle to be stooping over to get stuff.

Wow - that was a resounding NO to the side-by-side. I always wanted one, but FH said the same as all of you. I'm thinking we'll wind up with either the freezer on top or the bottom.

Thanks for the feedback - it's really helpful. My one worry was fitting trays / platters, and I see now that's just not possible. Sounds like it looks nice, but just isn't very practical!

Top freezer - I've never seen a side by side that you can fit a turkey in - they're such narrow freezers.

we have a side by side, the freezer is SOOO tiny luckily we have a huge freezer in the basement. It is close to impossible to put all of our leftovers away in the fridge after thanksgiving, we sent everyone home with leftovers.

bottom freezer
