The fact of the matter is no one cares. LI has become a cesspit of racism

Become? Long Island is one of the most segregated areas in the entire nation. It has always been chock full of racists. The KKK has been alive and thriving on Long Island forever.

Re: Racism in action

There are some parts of Queens that are even more segregated than Long Island. It's not exclusively a Long Island issue.

Come to think of it, you can argue that the segregation in NYC is even worse than on LI. Entire neighborhoods in Queens (and even Brooklyn as I remember) are not only dominated by one race, but by an entire ethnicity. There's the Russian, Italian, Polish, Chinese, etc. neighborhood.

Oh that’s still happening 100% in Brooklyn!

Naive of me to think we were making progress. Where are things better?

Exactly! My grandparents lived in a predominantly Irish neighborhood in Queens and there was an uproar when an Indian family moved in. I think they would’ve been happier with a registered sex offender as long as his last name was O’Toole.

Re: Racism in action

I grew up in Maspeth, Queens where I attended Catholic school from K-8, there was only 1 other Hispanic student in my entire school besides me. Because of my dark olive skin, I was picked on a lot as a kid, had my fair share of fist fights in 5th grade. I had teachers tell my parents the SHSAT was optional for Catholic HS admissions and its why I had to go to a public HS because I was clueless about admissions partially due to teachers who just didnt give me as much advising support as other classmates (who were all mostly Irish, Italian and Polish). It wasnt until I got to high school that I learned how racist my neighborhood and my school had been..Long Island continues to have many closet racists just as much as areas of the country..we have too many segregated neighborhoods but if you tell anyone from Garden City their schools will merge w Hempstead schools, you would see an outrage...i think at the root of school district segregation is really racism. I am glad media is calling celebrities and everyday people out for their despicable behavior. Things need to change.
