Radiant floor heating in the kitchen?
Anyone know much about it? Is it worth it?
We're going to install hardwood flooring, and we received a mailer yesterday about radiant floor heating - my mom has it in her bathroom (hers is electric though - not radiant) and it's AWESOME, but wondering if it's worth it for the kitchen?
Thanks!

Re: Radiant floor heating in the kitchen?
We have it in our kitchen and it's nice. My DH loves it more than I do mostly bc he goes around barefoot or with socks and I am usually wearing slippers. It does feel good. We have ceramic tile floor. We have an open floor plan so we lost a heat location when we took out the wall (kitchen wall) so it definitely warms up the area in general, not just underfoot. Our kitchen is on the smaller side so it's not that large an area. My brother has a huge eat in kitchen and has radiant heat and he loves it.

Re: Radiant floor heating in the kitchen?
my parent's have the radient heeat that uses water pipes in their master bathroom and kitchen
it is expensive to put in but it is very energy efficient - but i believe the stone (tile) is more efficient then wood

We have it under our tile in the bathroom and will be installing it in the kitchen under the tile when we redo it.
We love it!
My sisters in-laws have it throughout the entire 1st floor (all travertine floors) and they love it as well.

Re: Radiant floor heating in the kitchen?
I think that's a good idea! not only to make your feet toasty, but it'll help warm up the room, which will help lower your overall heating costs.

Take pics during the install. I had no idea it can be a DIY project...

Re: Radiant floor heating in the kitchen?
Jenn you should come over, We didnt do radiant under our wood floors, we were nervous about long term effects but we did it under the tile in the bathrooms.
We got these blowers that go under the kitchen cabinets because there is no room for baseboard in the kitchen.
If you want to take a look let me know!
