I can't see the pic, but I'm assuming it's the same one I have. The butterflys do not spin on their own, but you can move them by hand.
ETA now I can see the pic. What I said above is true.

thanks! DD is yammering away and laughing at the monkey, i was hoping the butterflies would spin but i can see how that could be a hazard.

DS has this gym. He loved it. Once in a blue moon he will play on it now, but, not in a while.
The butterflies don't spin. LOL. I'd spin them for him.

We have this as well as the whole rainforest collection. To be honest...I dont think this was the best made product by this collection. Nothing really moves or spins...the music is kinda cool but I think there are better playmats then this one.

Nope they don't spin. I totally thought they would. If I'm patient sometimes I'll sit there and spin them for him.

We thought they were supposed to spin too. It says on the package "butterflies spin at babys touch"... wouldn't that lead you to believe that touching it would make it spin? So we thought ours was broken and exchanged it.... then I realized it meant that you actually had to make it spin yourself. DUH!

ditto...I know the OP was looking for opinions, but I sold mine b/c it fell down on Noah like 5-6 times, it wouldnt stay upright and I had to take it apart comepletly to store it too many times.

honestly, I think the whole rainforest collection kinda stinks... we really only love the bouncer and the highchair...
