Random post-delivery uterus question

The uterus obviously stays big for a while, then contracts back over the weeks/months following delivery.

What is filling your uterus til it gets back down to shape? Air? Gas?

I never thought about it until last week when I had horrible contractions, then I lost 5 inches around my waist. Did I lose 5 inches of nothing? Chat Icon

I picture it almost like deflated - so its just "empty" and stretched out, if that makes sense... Chat Icon

It'll be a while. I'm weaning slowly off the breast, now that I don't have to restart chemo. Chat Icon
