I agree that they are con artists. Only way to know if they are true or not. Don't answer their questions and look at them with a poker face. If she can tell you everything without any "guesses" then they are real.

That’s me!!! The last one I went to (Rita) I sat there, hands folded, looking straight ahead. No nodding. No reactions. Nothing until my mouth opened and stayed there lmao

Same. They ask leading questions and everyone has personal tells whether they know it or not. They are professionals... At reading body language.

So how do you explain her reading me when I wasn't even in the same county and I was never mentioned?????

Because people who want to believe will find a way to believe. I didn't read your particular story, but even if you're on the phone or someone else is there in your stead... there are tells. A lengthy pause on the phone or an inhalation of breath... I mean these people are extremely skilled at reading things like this.

If you believe, good for you, I hope it brings you peace, but I never will.

Professional poker players, who win or lose millions of dollars on facial tells, and have been training every day for decades, still have to wear sunglasses, and cover their face when they get their cards because it's nearly impossible to hide all tells. Average people like us can never hide our tells, no matter how much we think we are.

Then you should probably read it before you comment :) I wasn't there, it wasn't on the phone, and nobody was there in my steed as you say. I also heard the tape after of my second cousins reading.

But AGAIN. I wasn't there...not in person, not on the phone nowhere in CONTACT with her! I was at work in Queens, while the distant cousin who was actually the one being read was at her home in Hicksville.

If you think these people aren't researching you beforehand when you make appointments, I wouldn't be so sure. It's SO easy to find out info about someone. Via email address, phone number inputted into Facebook, a simple google search, a Zillow look up, through your friends, etc. etc. etc. But, like someone else said, if you have a strong will to believe this stuff, you will, no matter what people say.

Why would a "psychic" read someone who isn't even there? How could they? If the whole basis is they get a "feeling" from being near someone...?

I don't know... I'm not trying to argue with you.. I'm happy for you if you believe it. But I don't buy it and there is literally nothing on this earth that these people could say to me that would make me believe otherwise.

I have to agree with this. I really do think that mediums can make blank statements.

I said earlier that one of my best friends was on the pilot episode. She mentioned to her mom something about her grandmother. She mentioned buttons (don’t know about you, but my grandmother did a lot of sewing and was a seamstress.) She also mentioned that there was a special recipe book. Uh, what Italian grandma doesn’t have a recipe book?

My BFF said it was strange that she knew this stuff, but I think they were more into getting publicity for their business (she walked into their deli.)

I have family that grew up with them and she is the "real deal", but I think with any TV personality everything becomes a gimmick and gets watered down. It's TV. Reality TV is far from reality.

With regards to all mediums being con artists....I believe many are, but there are those with a real gift. I was read twice by someone that had explicit details of my life that could not be found on an internet search, etc. and no matter how many "tells" I may have had they wouldn't have given him the explicit details in the reading. If that were the case he'd be a famous magician not a local medium. Chat Icon

I saw 3 people I know on the show. Two I spoke to after the show aired. One was in a group reading session and the other was one where she stopped her out in a public place and read her. They were both blown away by her. The one in the group reading told me she was a last minute add to the group. The show hadn't even been on TV yet. They were filming for the first season. She said she knew details (the theme for her daughters bday party, what her nursery looked like, etc.) that there was no way she would have known all of that.

I think it's fun to believe in it. It provides people with comfort.

Honestly I think that they are all completely fake. If someone had that much of a connection to the afterworld don't you think they would have more answers about what happens after death, etc? However I also have no faith and I can not understand how anyone can presume to know what happens in the afterlife. I envy those who believe, I really wish I could be one of them because I think it makes life a lot easier. But I can't.

I just think of these people as entertainers and I think everyone else should too.

Last minute means nothing though. It takes 30 seconds to find someone on their internet. Look how many people use their real name on this very site, with pics, details, etc.. Not to mention, why does a medium even talk about someone's nursery, bday party theme, etc. ? Aren't they really supposed to be connecting with the deceased? Or did her child pass away?

No it was her mother. She made those references saying that her mother was aware she had a baby girl and then said those other things to validate that her mother was there for those events. There was a lot more that she told me but I really can't remember the rest of it right now.

They get their info from our loved ones who have passed on...so since my cousin and me share family members that is how. She's not a psychic, she is a medium. Medium communicate with people who are dead.I don't need you to believe, I am very religious so I believe in an afterlife. I know most people in this board are non religious and very liberal and don't. But just like I can't prove it's real, you can't prove it's not real :) It's funny how the most liberal people, and not pointing at you specifically , are the most close minded.

Not all liberals are non-religious.
I have met John Edward and have been more than accurately greeted by those who have crossed over by him. I truly believe that mediums connect with the dead.

Why do people feel the need to explain themselves for what they believe? And why do people feel the need to convince someone that what they believe is a con.
Let people be. Geez. Everything doesn't need to be explained or debunked.

This same argument comes up every time!

Who cares!! You don't believe. Fine. Let the people that do believe. Believe.
No harm to you.

ETS: I swear this is why I rarely talk about any of my beliefs.

My Dad always told me once you pass on, you shouldn’t call them back as you would disturb their rest
( I wanted to use the board with the letters and try to communicate , I was maybe 12 then)
My dad has since passed , I was quite close to him emotionally, but every time I want to do it I am reminded of what he said
Also truthfully the cost is also a deterrent ,I think..
