Ranting . . .
I'm such a dummy. I just ate 3/4 of a sandwich I bought at Pret a Manger before I realized it was turkey breast and not grilled chicken! Is this terrible?? It's antibiotic free, but I realize that isn't the issue. Luckily there isn't that much meat on their sandwiches and as soon as I realized I took the rest off.
I've just been having a rough week. MS kicked in a bit and basically, if I'm not eating, I'm queasy. Still exhausted. I FINALLY see my dr. next week and am nervous about that.
My skin is a wreck.
I just can't seem to do anything right. I've complained before about difficulties with food and I'm trying so hard, I just feel like I keep messing up.

don't worry - I eat deli meat almost every day (and did with my first DS as well) - no issues at all
My OB even said it was fine (unless I was buying deli meat from a "fishy"-looking place) ... but she said subways was fine.

Re: Ranting . . .
don't get yourself crazy about it... I eat deli meat atleast 3x a week....I just make sure I buy it from good places. Its not that you CANT have it, you're just increasing your risk for there to be bacteria on it.... If it is from a reputable place, you are fine!

I think very few of us have not made a mistake or made the choice to have something on the no no list. I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine. The risk of listeria is actually more of a concern toward the end when your immune system is more strained. GL with your appointment!

COLD cuts are not a banned item. The only place I have ever heard it is here and if you go by everything you hear on the board you will never eat anything or leave your house.

There are lots of reputable sites that will tell you to avoid them unless reheated if you do research it (fda.gov, webmd, americanpregnancy.org, etc). Listeria is very rare so thankfully most people have no issue but the advice in the articles I've read is to avoid it since if you do catch it the results are extremely serious.
To the OP, what's done is done so I still say don't worry at all. It's very rare so it's way more than likely that you're perfectly fine.

Re: Ranting . . .
I eat deli turkey all the time. My OB never said it was an issue and I brought it up only after seeing it mentioned on this website. She said as long as you are buying it from a normal reputable deli/store its about as safe as eating any other fruit, vegetable, or dairy product as far as listeria is concerned. The biggest recent outbreak was associated with Canteloupe
PS Listeriosis is a dangerous food born illness that you are just as likely to catch pregnant or non-pregnant. It can be fatal but that doesn't keep most people from avoiding all produce, deli meats etc on a regular basis. Chances are you will be just fine and if it bothers you just avoid it in the future (along with all fruits and produce, and dairy products?)

Re: Ranting . . .
I ate cold cuts pretty much daily while pregnant. Never heated either
Honestly, listeria is far more prevalent in fruits and veges, bagged salads, etc than cold cuts.
Recently they recalled a bunch of prepackaged hummus from TJs and Target for listeria.
You can catch it from anything so I am not sure why cold cuts get the bad rap.

Re: Ranting . . .
I think you are fine!! Hang in there Personally, I am only weary purchasing from dirty delis and supermarkets in which I do not go to normally. A place like that should be safe. As much as I want to agree with the other ladies saying listeria is rare and don't worry, I had a girl from here FM me about her bout of listeria from cold cuts and my bosses wife lost her baby at 3 months due to listeria. It is pretty rare but we all should still be cautious in choosing where we purchase our foods and also washing all fruits and veggies well bc the contamination can also come from that. I don't believe in living in fear but just be a little more aware and cautious.

Questiom- maybe off topic but I feel like a moron- when you wash your fruits and veges do you wash them in anything other than water? I always wash, but I feel like it's a waste because I'm just rinsing them off in water- and really, is that killing any germs? Are you supposed to use a fruit/vege wash? Vinegar? Always wondered this!

I used vinegar for a while on my grapes and berries but I recently started using the Honest brand veggie fruit wash and I think it's the same crap lol I got it as a gift but may go back to vinegar when it's done. It kills mold spores and bacteria and the fruits last longer.

Depends on what. At the beginning of this pregnancy I actually did some research on this, and I think the info I found was off of the FDA website. Basically it said that rinsing in water was just as good as washing in other products. Depending on what the fruit is, changes how I was it. If it's a peach type fruit, I will actually scrub a little. If you are cooking the veggie or fruit, washing is unnecessary (same as with meat).

But wasn't there an outbreak in cantaloupe within the past few years? You don't eat cantaloupe rind so I'm not sure washing would have helped.

the listeria is on the rind, and when you cut into it, it spreads, washing cantaloupe DOES help prevent it.

FDA does not say avoid. Just to be careful. Well be careful goes with anything when you are pregnant.
