This August? I haven't stayed there but are you sure it's going to be available?
With RCI you tend to have to trade in your week a year in advance.
If you get a week there I would love to know how you liked it! :)

ours is at the Pueblo bonito in Mazatlan, Mexico.. which is an absolutely beautiful resort if you ever want to go to that part of Mexico!

I was looking at going there as well - there are so few resorts that you do not have to pay the additional all inclusive fees.

oh i can't wait to find out how it went.. do me a favor?? there is supposed to be a water park with slides and a lazy river being built over by the beach.. it's pretty hidden apparently and on the reviews i have gotten it has not been completed or the travelers couldn't find it.. (it might be closer to the mayan palace) could you peak in on it if you see it??? thanks!!! my kids would LOVE it!

Re: rci timeshare owners.. has anyone ever stayed at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya in cancun?
DH and I have been to the Mayan Palace section there (we're direct owners) and have stayed at the Grand Mayan in Acapulco. I HIGHLY reccomend this resort and all of the Mayans. We were actually going to go in June, but the airfare was a little $$ and we decided to go to our timeshare in Florida instead. Our combined airfare for 3 people was less than 1 person to Cancun. Anyway, as far as the resort goes... It is very spread out so there will be some walking or taking their shuttles. DH and I didn't mind the walks because the grounds are beautiful. The pool at the Grand section is smaller, so you will probably wind up at the Mayan Palace pool because it's huge and has more entertainment for the kids. If you rent a palapa for $30 make sure you eat and get drinks that day because they put it against the rental cost, which makes the palapa free. The restuarant Tramonto is very nice and Blue Havana has been redone since I was there, so I can't say too much about it. If we were going to go in June, we were actually going to pay to transfer through RCI instead of using our direct pownership of they woldn't upgrade us to the Grand. The rooms tend to be very modern with greta ammenities like jacuzzi tubs and plunge pools on the deck if you have a 2 bedroom. Yes, the resort is pretty secluded, all of the Mayan's are. They will pick you up for free at the airport (you pay for the return) but you have to contact the resort for that. It's easy enough to use the bus system but DH is kind of a brat like that so we always cab it into Playa del Carmen- which is not to be missed. It's a really nice town with tons of smaller bars and resturants. And it also feels very safe. The main strip is shut down to street traffic so you can walk without worrying about cars. That's all I can think of right now, but if you have any other specific questions, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

Re: rci timeshare owners.. has anyone ever stayed at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya in cancun?
IL's have timeshare with RCI -- they have been to pretty much all of the hotels affiliated in Mexico -- the Grand Mayan you mentioned, the Palace ones, etc. They love all of them and rave about them when they come home.
For something more detailed, you could check out TripAdvisor.
They told me that a few of them were recently renovated - I wonder if the one you are staying at happens to be one of them! Have a great time!

We're taking the hotel shuttle to and from the airport, and I think we will cab or rent a car if we want to get out and do things. I want to see the ruins, but otherwise we are looking for a very low key vacation.

Thank you for the great info - you made me really excited to go. I usually research like crazy before we go away, but I'm just taking it easy this time so I'm glad to have a little bit of a first hand idea of what to expect. Thanks again!
