Re-doing our deck... need ideas

Here is a picture of my deck. We want to replace all of the boards because it is very splintery and old. I think I want to remove the sides also and make steps down around the whole deck. I also wanted to expand the deck to the left of the picture. The door in the picture is the back of our garage and is being removed (due to ther reasons). Do you think it will look good to have the deck step down there and have a close to the ground deck just outside of the garage?

your plan sounds great, it will probably feel a lot larger like that. The only thing to consider is your insurance company though. Our deck(came with house) had no railing but was way too low to fall & get hurt. Our insurance co made us add a railing. Not sure if it would be an issue for you.

It is not finished yet. Right now it is a pile of concrete scrapsChat Icon My house looks SO TRASHY right now LOL!
It should be done by Wednesday, then I can post before, during, and after photos.
