Is it normal to be sent for HCG tests? We went to the doc, supposedly I am at 5 weeks exactly but she cant be sure of when i ovulated. I am freaking out because now i have to go to get this blood test.
Does everyone get these? or just when it is too early to see something? or when they suspect something is wrong?

When I went to my OB for my first appt, I was also sent for an HCG test. I was about 6 weeks so I went for one on a Tuesday and another on Thursday- to show the doctor if my HCG levels were properly doubling. At 5 weeks, you wouldn't see anything on a sonogram, so to confirm the pregnancy, the doctor is sending you for the HCG level. It's totally normal!!

Yup. I'm pretty sure I"m going today to get blood work done for HCG and my OB specifically said that they aren't going to even do a sonogram at 5 weeks bc we won't see anything...way too soon!!!

I had to get one to make sure my #'s were doubling bc I was bleeding and they didn't see a heartbeat at the sono. Mt #'s didn't double so I was a wreck.......a few days later we saw the heartbeat and now I have a beautiful son.
If your #'s don't double try not to get too upset.

This is exactly what happened to me....I just ovulated late and thought I was father along than I was. At 5 weeks all they saw were the sacs, so I had to go get blood work taken. Usually you don't even see anything at 5 weeks....TOTALLY NORMAL

This is exactly what Im going trhough right now. It is totally normal to go for blood tests. They couldnt see anything on my 5 week sono either. Good luck!

I had 2 HCG tests done. My first one came back at the right level but when I was talking to my midwife I was saying how I didn't "feel" different. She sent me for another HCG test to make sure my numbers at least doubled.
They didn't just double - they increased by 5 times!
Hang in there, totally normal. HCG is a pregnancy hormone that consistently rises throughout the first trimester. It's an easy way to make sure the pregnancy is going as planned until sonos are able to show something.

It's a good thing. Like others said, they will probably do 2-3 tests to make sure your numbers are doubling every 48 hours.

Everyone has them! It's to check your levels and better indicate how far along you are.

I had an HcG test too. I had my first sono on a Friday (@5w2d) and they only saw the sac. I went back that Monday to have more blood drawn for my HcG levels. They came back good and then 2 weeks later we had another sono (@7w,2d) and saw the heartbeat.
Nothing to concerned with...promise!

HCG tests are normal and will show if your levels are increasing...
I had 2 HCG tests last week and the numbers were good, more than doubling.
Yesterday I had my first sono and saw both sacs and the fetal pole but no heartbeat yet...
Hoping to see a heartbeat next week when I go back!

My doc always sends me for a HCG. THis pregnancy I went in when I should have been 5 weeks, and we didn't see anything either. I went in the next week, and we saw the sac, and the next week, we saw the baby.
