Re: Read my letter! On behalf of my Mom-she got fired!
If your mom isn't up to filing a complaint and more so if she only has her word to back it up not much will come out of this. Sorry to say.
I would speak with a lawyer and find out what he thinks her options are based on the specifics. They may be willing to send a letter for free or small fee. I bet the co will offer her something, probably an additional few months.
This manager sounds like a real L O S E R!!! Sorry for your mom

I would have your mother talk to an attorney and someone at the equal employment opportunity commission.
agreed. consult an attorney before sending the letter, you dont want to send it and them think you're just trying to extort money from them (i'll keep quiet if you pay me kinda thing). tell an attorney and ask for their advice as to the next steps to take. i know you know a bunch of attorneys melissa!!! good luck and keep us posted!
But it has to be a Georgia atty. I don't know anyone who is licensed in GA and NY. Only Fl or NJ
You or your mom could always get in touch with the local chapter of the Georgia Bar Association and ask for a referral. You'd want a plaintiff's side employment lawyer (labor lawyers deal with unions). You can also always search martindale.com for lawyers in the Atlanta area. You'd have to figure out, either based on the firm's website or by calling, which firms/attorneys represented plaintiffs.
Most plaintiff's attorneys will offer a free consultation, either over the phone or possibly in person. If they take your case, some will charge an hourly fee while others will take 1/3 of any money you receive (settlement or jury verdict).
If your mom wants to pursue anything, she should act quickly. As mentioned above, she has 180 days from her discharge to file claims under state law (300 days to file under federal law - she'd file claims under both state and federal statute). Even if she just wants an attorney to write a letter on her behalf, the letter should be sent well before the statute of limitations expires.
I hope everything works out.

Don't even send it. Get your attorney involved. If those things are true, that is discrimination. Does your mom have written backup?
I agree completely.

I cannot believe that but it does not surprise me with the lack of loyalty of corporations today. I agree with the other girls and consult with a lawyer before you contact them.
