Reading at night to your children..does this happen to anyone?
Anyone else have this problem?
I am trying to read to Megan before bedtime. But when I do, she gets SO excited, that it gets her all riled up and she wont go to sleep. The second she sees me with the book, it doesnt calm her down, no matter how soft I read or what kind of book..she just loves it so much.
I try to read to her during the day instead but I really wanted to make it a night time routine.
Anyone else go through this?

It's wonderful that she already loves to read!!!
If the story gets her too riled up, maybe don't make the story the last thing you do before bed. I would just make sure that when you do sit down to read in the evening, you dim the lights a bit. Maybe do her bath after the story. Sometimes the bath is very calming for them.

That happened for the first few weeks with us, but eventually, I kept at it, and she learned that her book is part of her sleeptime routine, so she understands now that when I close the book, it means sleepytime. I also make sure that the last book I read is "goodnight moon", and when I close the book, I tell her, ok Alex, now it's YOUR turn to say goodnight", and we say goodnight to her toys, goodnight to the chair, goodnight to the light, and eventually, goodnight to mommy, and that's when I put her in the crib.
Also, make sure the lights are dimmed - we usually give her a bath, turn down the lights, set up her crib, change her diaper, put her in her PJ's, and then I sit in the recliner with her and read her stories for about 15 minutes and then put her down.
Keep making it a specific routine - I bet she'll catch on soon.

.
I like the idea of saying goodnight to everything. That's something I may steal!

That's her favorite part too, and it helped transition her to going into her crib without getting so upset.

Taylor who is 2 also get's excited....just wait until DC takes the book out of your hand says "I read" and tries to read it...by memory of course. A 10 page book now takes 20 mins. to read...but it is so adorable!!!!!!
