Re: Reading Books to DC
my boys try to rip the pages, or grab the book if it is a hardcover, so when they are in the playroom, I read the book outloud to them. They will glance over at th ebook or listen to me reading.

Re: Reading Books to DC
Ryan will sit for 5 seconds if I try to read him a book. He has alot of board books that he plays with and brings them over to me to flip through the pages with him. We point at the pictures together and I say what each thing is. But if I try to sit with him and read him a story, he will get restless after the first sentence!

Re: Reading Books to DC
My kids aren't mobile yet but they will pay attention longer than I expected them to for their age.
They are pretty good w/ it. DS looks at the pages and DD studies my mouth making the words.

Re: Reading Books to DC
If DS is calm and in a snuggling mood I will go get a book and read to him.
He's only 3 months, but he still pays attention.
But if he's not in the mood there's no way he sits still.

Re: Reading Books to DC
I gave up trying to read to Andrew. He rather walk around and throw the books then sit and listen. I bought books on CD and have him listen to them when I put him to bed.

Re: Reading Books to DC
DS is 3 months old. I read to DS at least once a day, it calms him down, he loves to look at the pages and touch the book.

Re: Reading Books to DC
Sometimes he'll pay attention, othertimes he just wants to eat the book. So I just go with whatever mood he's in. Sometimes I will sit on the couch and read while he plays on the floor.

Re: Reading Books to DC
It all depends on DS's mood. Last night I read to him "Mister Dog" one of those golden books and he loved it. He was laughing and slapping the book. Other nights he wants to eat the book or try to escape to do something "more interesting" like climb the couch pillows or harass the dog.

Re: Reading Books to DC
She used to LOVE it- now she won't let me.
She will sit in my lap but wants to turn the pages or pretend to read it herself.

Re: Reading Books to DC
I thought it was just me- everyone I know reads to their children-from the time that they were a couple of months old-I never understood this.
My kids just rip up the pages, eat the corners of the books, and have 0 attn span-they wouldnt sit for more that 5 seconds. Then all of a sudden at 2 1/2 my son's favorite thing in the world is for me to read to him...I have to read 3 books every night before bed. I never thought I would see the day where he would enjoy this!!

Re: Reading Books to DC
DD will not go to bed UNLESS I read her at least 2 books (Goodnight Moon and Freight Train in that order) and then she usually want Daddy to read her a third book. She sits and listens and watches where you point to on the book. She gets very mad if she doesn't get read to before bed. As soon as the PJs go on she reaches for the books. I was very surprised that she doesn't grab at them.

Re: Reading Books to DC
Ella only recently became interested in reading. I'd say in the last 2 months. Now she actually brings me books to read, and often I have to read them more than once. I only use board books with her though since she likes to turn the pages herself and point/poke at all the pictures

Re: Reading Books to DC
Kerri loves books and will still sit while I read but only for her favorites (good thing she has quite a few favorites)
ETA: If she doesn't sit still I will just read aloud
