Reading Comprehension help
One of my 7th grade students is having trouble recalling story details and applying information from the story to answer questions or write responses.
Besides graphic organizers, what are some strategies that I can use to help her retain the information.
I have been using a skill builders book with her. She is able to recall details from the short stories in the skill builder but is having trouble with a novel or textbook.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Reading Comprehension help
What type of story is it? I have done this in the past....
1. Write a few sentences exactly from the story on sentence strips
2. Cut each word and scramble up the sentence.
3. Have the student rearrange the words into the correct sentnce.
This makes the student read the words and check if the sentence makes sense.
You can also write different sentences on the sentence strip and have the student put the sentences in the correct order that they happened from the story.

Re: Reading Comprehension help
take notes on post-its during reading. more interactive during the reading process and it may result in more detail retention. also have you identified her best learning styles? audio, visual, tactile? perhaps try to utilize some of those strategies for her individual style of learning. ex- audio books, moving around or walking while reading, highlighting, etc.
