First of all 
I can relate to your story since my MIL is now in the final stages of lung cancer which has spread to her bones and brain. She has hospice now and we are all just waiting for her to pass. Damien hasn't seen his Nanny since Mother's day, he does however see my DH upset whenever he gets off the phone with his father. He knows that Daddy is sad because his Nanny is sick. I try to talk to him about the fact that she will be in Heaven and although we can't see her she will look down on us and will be our own special Angel. At Julie's age I don't think you can explain too much to her because I know Damien (who is almost 4) doesn't really understand the finality of what is happening. So I would just say things like the Dr's are going to try and fix Poppy and stuff like that. My MIL lived with lung cancer for 8 years before it got this bad and it is only because it has spread to the rest of her body. Hopefully with your Dad they can take it out and then it doesn't spread. I will keep your Dad in my prayers.

Thank's everyone, I will keep you posted... I am praying it's just a nodule and nothing more, but the rate it grew is really scaring me. And I found out today there are two growths, not just one.

i'm sorry my dad has had cancer too off and on for the past 10 years so i can relate. Hang in there and i'll say a prayer for your dad too

It must be so hard to explain what is happening to your daughter, but I think what you're doing is a good idea, be honest that the doctor will try to "fix" him but don't promise. I hope they can remove the growths and that it doesn't spread, hopefully Juliette will have her Poppy around for a long time!
