Re: RearFacing Convertible Carseat
Depends on the car. Check the manual. Some cars don't recommend using the middle.

I agree. My truck calls for it on the passenger rear side

Depends on the car. Mine goes on the side. There is also no latch in the middle in my car.

Exactly. Or if there is a "hump" in the middle it is not good because it needs to be completely flush.

Re: RearFacing Convertible Carseat
The middle location is always considered the best, however almost 60% of the cars on the road do not accommodate a center installation.
Armrests, humps, bolsters, hinges, seat belt path too small all will contribute to the center not being an available location.
Basically, the center location is a car dependent decision.

Wow, 60%. I didn't realize it was that high of a percentage. I was thinking more like 10-20%. Then again, I've only looked into the vehicles I own, and not hundreds of other cars....

Mine are on the sides - since we have two. Also we don't have LATCH in the center.

That shouldn't be the only reason not to use the center seat. A proper seat belt attachment is just as good if not better than a LATCH attachment (LATCH has a fairly low weight limit, whereas the seatbelts have one that is very high)
