Have you tried Home Depot or Loews. My DH installs carpet and these are the first places he tells people. You can always try remnant places as well. Where are you located. You can FM if you want!!

Empress Carpet on Voice Road and Glen Cove Road. They are awesome - they sell remients (sp?) as well....

i would highly recommend fred's carpet in east northport. i had a stair and upstairs hall runner installed a few years ago and could not be happier with the quality and the service that i received. not sure of the exact price but i know it was over $1,000. prices vary depending on the brand and quality but i definitely would not skimp on the quality since it is such a high traffic area.
this is the runner i have. color is lighter IRL.

Village Carpet in West Hempstead. (They're on Hempstead tpke, next to where Nat'l Wholesale Liquadators used to be). They were great!!
