I keep hearing commercials for Ray the Plumber, has anyone used them??

Thanks.

You didn't mention where you are, but I sent you FM with some info for our plumber in western Suffolk.

Sorry, I don't have a plumber for you but I wanted to give you a heads-up that replacing a toilet should be pretty cheap. A very good toilet costs about $150 - $200 from Lowes/Home Depot and a "just fine" toilet costs even less than that. So if you call a random plumber and it seems like he's charging you too much, you can always buy the toilet yourself and have him just install it.

Depends on how you define "very good" too - a Kohler flush-assist low water toilet would be more like $350 - $450 from a good plumbing supply company. Brand names at Lowes and HD are very often lesser quality interior parts which is why they are cheaper - plastic instead of brass, smaller sizes, etc.

That's true. I hadn't heard that about toilets but I've heard that about a lot of their other products, especially paint. You get a good brand name but a cheaper, mass-produced inferior version than what you get at specialty stores.

Back on topic, we just went by "flush power" and only looked at what Lowes rated 10/10. We considered that "very good" - good enough for us, for sure! We got a Kohler from there that looks good in our bathroom and flushes great. Hey, it's a toilet, that's all we need.

I was thinking that we would buy everything and have someone install it (hubby is not very handy, LOL). But I had no idea of the varying qualities. Thanks. I will have to do a little more research.

Highly recommend Joe 631-921-5343. My brother had to do a lot of work on his house and Joe was fabulous and affordable.

We used John Castagna to fix a leak on a toilet (we moved it to paint the wall, but didn't put it back right Chat Icon ) and then had him install our vanity. We are really happy with his work, reliability and we will use him for larger projects when we get to them.
