Reccomend your bank that has free checking
I was a WAMU customer and Chase bought them out. Ive been happy but now I hear Ill be charged a fee for my checking account starting in February if I dont keep the minimum requirement in the account at all times. As a single Mom this is hard to do. Can you tell me what bank you use that you are happy with that offers free checking with no minimum balance?(and also offers free online bill pay)

ETA: my employer doesnt offer direct deposit so the ones that offer it free with that arent an option.

TD Bank.. Free for the first year..After it remains free so long as you keep a $100 minmum deposit.

Do you have direct deposit? If so you shouldn't be charged. I have had Chase for years and love them, never had any issues and I don't get charged for my checking because I have Dir Dep.

Bank of America, always free as long as you have direct deposit and free online banking

Do you have direct deposit? because Chase told me i didnt have to worry about having a particular balance if i had at least 1 direct deposit every month...

Astoria Federal Savings offers free checking and I believe onlilne bill payment.

HSBC offers free checking if you keep a min. balance OR have direct deposit. We do the latter.

Some of them will do it free if you have one direct payment made from the account. Talk to them and see if you can set up a reoccurring payment like a car payment. They might let you get it free by doing this.

I dont think this was an option but I will definately call back and find out, that would be good.

There are 2 with Chase....
1 with direct deposit
2 where as long as you have more than 5 debits a month its free.

What about a credit union? If you live or work in Nassau or Suffolk you can join NEFCU, Bethpage FCU, Teachers FCU, Sperry FCU...they all have free checking accounts.

I am closing DH account at Chase as well. He does not get direct deposit and I refuse to keep their minimum in his account.
They seem pretty inflexible about it. Off to another bank he goes.

yes this is true this is what they told me when i called and didn't qualify for the 1st option, with number two, your account remains the same u just have to make five or more debits of one dollar or more each month, you have to go into the bank to change it though.

Bethpage Credit Union. I love them. They have a lot more branches and 7-11 atms are free.
